While people waited for the show to start they gave away free booze, presumably so the audience was more excitable. So it became a thing that Leeds students did. To a taping, get battered on free beer and maybe earn enough to pay your rent for a year.
So, I've been informed that the scenario was thus. The UK version of The Price is Right was filmed in Leeds and the studio was at one end of Hyde Park where a lot of student accommodation is located. You could walk in and get to be part of the audience.
