📢 Housing Co-ops: What You Need to Know About the Rent Standard 2026
The new Rent Standard 2026 has now been published by the Regulator of Social Housing and comes into force on 1 April 2026. It applies to Registered Provider housing co-ops in England.

Energy Performance Certificate reform
The government has responded to a 2025 consultation on reforms to Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).
The government intends to deliver new EPCs from October 2026.

Rent convergence: Matthew Pennycook has today confirmed the social housing rent convergence levels, with weekly rents permitted to rise by £2 from 2028/29. This mechanism will apply only where current rents are below formula rent.
Wales: The Welsh government has announced a £99 million investment in the Optimised Retrofit Programme to enhance the energy efficiency of social homes across Wales. The program aims to improve energy efficiency by funding insulation, efficient heating systems, and renewable energy installations.

The Regulator of Social Housing [England] has confirmed a fee increase for Providers with fewer than 1,000 homes - Registered Provider co-ops will pay a flat fee of £710, up 4% on the £682.50 charged in 2025/26.
Scottish building regulations - fire safety review and compliance: call for evidence.
Consultation will help inform policy decisions in considering improvements to fire safety regulation/guidance and compliance with building regulations. Closes 10 April 2026
Wales: A new requirement under the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS), coming into force in April, will require social landlords in Wales to investigate serious hazards within 24 hours.

Scotland: The Housing Act received royal assent on 6/11 and represents the next significant step in their ongoing efforts to ensure everyone has access to a safe, affordable home. But it didn't really consider co-ops. CCH is working with the Scottish housing co-operative movement to change this.
