If you’re roughly my age, it’s wild to reflect on the optimism for the future Americans felt when Obama was elected — young Americans spontaneously took to the streets to celebrate! — and contrast with what we face today. The falloff over the past 18 years is hard to process.

What did folks think was going to happen when they changed the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War?

Trump took us to war and has no freaking idea how to get us out of it.

I'm begging my fellow politicians, Illinoisans, and Americans to realize that right now, we aren't fighting over policy or political party.

We're fighting over whether we're going to be a country rooted in empathy and kindness — or one rooted in cruelty and rage.

Big challenge for political pundits:

Discuss the speech the president actually gives tonight, and not the one you maybe thought you might have seen if you squinted just right.

Compare that real speech to the real world around us.

The Greatest Victims of Trump's Greatest Grift Are America's Greatest Heroes The so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) no longer exists, but its negative impact on veterans will last for decades.

it’s estimated that DOGE’s “savings” were exaggerated by more than 95 percent. Of the more than $50 billion DOGE claimed to have saved, only $1.4 billion could be verified — and not a single dollar went back to the Treasury to reduce the deficit.

Roadless areas offer great opportunities for recreation - such as fishing, hunting, hiking.

Roadless areas prevent sediment and other pollution from entering our waterways.

The US public supports these rules, for reasons listed above, and more.
