We're seeing the same in Trump's America. Cancelling clean energy projects cut 38,031 manufacturing jobs and caused over $30bn in losses last year. The green economy is essential to the UK's economic performance. The latest ONS stats show that the low-carbon and renewable economy grew 12% in 2024. Employment has increased by over 50% since 2015.

Gas prices 🆙 again 🔥
As the price of natural gas spikes across Europe for the fourth time in the last five years, think on the myth-peddling Reform and Conservatives who want to abandon renewable energy and rely even more on gas - and Trump’s gas at that!
That's why this week I backed @pippaheylings.bsky.social Bill calling for our chalk streams to be nominated as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, giving them the status and protection they deserve for future generations.

As I write, sewage is pouring into three rivers in my constituency – the River Itchen, the River Meon and the River Hamble. In the first seven weeks of 2026, sewage has been flowing into the River Itchen for over 400 hours and counting in just one monitoring site, near Headbourne Worthy. This is a protected and rare chalk stream that runs right through the centre of the city of Winchester. The River Itchen is one of just six chalk streams in England that support the endangered Atlantic Salmon population, which is currently laying eggs needed for the species' survival. Project White Hart, the campaign to save this species, has warned that a single major event could be catastrophic. In the River Meon, there have been over 500 confirmed sewage dumps this year alone. This is happening where beavers have recently been reintroduced, and the sewage flows right through the South Downs National Park. A recent report from the South Downs National Park Authority found that 90% of the park's rivers are not meeting a good standard for nature. If we cannot protect nature and landscapes in our National Parks, how can the public have confidence in our ability to protect them anywhere? Action on this cannot wait. Failure to protect Hampshire’s chalk streams will lead to ecological catastrophe. These habitats are exceptionally rare, rich in biodiversity, support unique flora and fauna, and are impossible to recreate or replace. Will the government introduce an immediate package of support to clean up the sewage spills that have poured into Hampshire’s rivers this winter and commit to an urgent meeting with me to act on these spills and safeguard our chalk streams from future discharges?

This is unacceptable. If we fail to protect chalk streams now, we risk losing them forever.

It's vital to understand the impacts that housing interventions can have on health. We've been working with Phil from the University of Huddersfield as part of our #WarmHomesHealthyFutures programme.
And of course we need climate resilience to be central to all planning whether of new homes or national infrastructure. We shouldn’t be building on flood plains and our planning system should be ensuring that doesn’t happen - because the costs and damage down the line are huge otherwise.
The UK should be acting urgently to strengthen flood protections and support nature-based flood management and sustainable drainage systems. Flooding and extreme weather will only continue to damage households and communities due to climate breakdown. We urgently need to act.
Alarming new analysis by Aviva has highlighted how one in nine new homes in England built between 2022 and 2024 were constructed in areas at risk of flooding. This is why we need real climate adaptation and resilience strategies.

This article on Reform's energy pledges highlights my concerns on Richard Tice's regressive energy policies. "This idea that more oil and gas is going to get bills down is blatant myth peddling... It's misleading."

The truth is Reform UK's climate-denying agenda is putting ideology ahead of evidence, public safety, and security. Tice, and Reform, want to lock us further into dependence on American gas under Donald Trump, who has openly said that he would that dependence to 'project power', including against the UK and Europe. (3/5)
