Side point: “blogger” was part of the inspiration for “flatte,” a word I’ve been trying to coin for more than a decade meaning “decaf latte.” It has not yet caught on.

It’s an argument for continually working to reinvent and improve your craft.
I mean, there’s nothing like writing books to hammer home how few people have the time or attention for long-form journalism, but that’s not an argument against the form.
Sure. But also, aspire to have every sentence draw readers on to the next. Give them a reason to read on. And deploy design and/or user experience to provide as many entry points to the text as possible. Of course, most people will still drop off before the end, but it has ever been thus.
I get such satisfaction from cleaning the filters in the dishwasher, dryer, HEPAs vacuum, etc. Take that, food particles, dust and germs! We’re ready for the next round.
What’s the best way to contact you? I just have a few basic questions related to a project I might be working on. Mainly want to get a better sense of the lie of the land. Many thanks!
Wait a minute. Are you bringing a monorail to Springfield? That sounds awesome.

Hello #BookSky! I’m sharing details for my first two book tour stops, one of which has a virtual option 🤩
On April 6 @ 7 pm I will be in Washington, DC talking with Camonghne Felix at an event jointly put on by Lost City Books and @loyaltybooks.bsky.social!

Anyone have a hot take on solar geoengineering? I'm gathering perspectives.
My favourite is that “led” is the past tense of “lead” even though it’s a homonym for “lead.” I don’t know how any of us ever actually learned this language.
I consider the two of you interacting as the most ambitious crossover episode of all time.
Might be cool if it were revealed this was a prequel series.
Joke’s on them! I always keep my bank account empty and my credit cards maxed out. Tough luck, fraudsters!
I haven’t had this (what with not being a scientist and all) but I do keep getting fake invitations from women authors looking to strike up writerly conversations. As with yours, I can’t work out the aim - is it just testing the waters or would a request for money come in at some point?
In university I and two friends formed an experimental a capella trio we called “The Vocal Treat.” I’d describe our performances as discordant soundscapes more than songs. Anyway, I’m a very quiet writer now.
On social media you see
The Electric Company.
How do read the post that catches your eye?
Eagerly. Eagerly.
Eager… L-Y.
The web-based solving platform Crosswordr is alas winding down in a few months. What platform might you like AVCX to partner with? Or if yr not sure, let us know which features you like in a solving platform.
Stellar thread.
In the vein of recent conversations about people being the ends rather than the means for doing science:
More pertinently, I particularly appreciate the premise that people are the end, not the means, for scientific discovery. The past few years have been a journey for me in learning how strangely necessary it is to make this argument.
I think the first thing we can all agree on is that there are two prominent people named David Hogg, and recognizing this reality goes a long way in reducing confusion over the relationship between astrophysics and gun control.
If those who manage shared indoor spaces took basic measures to improve and monitor air quality, individuals might not have to take quite so many precautions of the type you mislabel as extreme.
Aside from the absurd term “extreme measures,” this article doesn’t ask or answer the very obvious journalistic question, “What are organizers doing to mitigate illness risk in the Olympic Village?” How’s the ventilation and air quality? What’s the testing situation?
I do this all the time. And I don’t even write fiction!
Which do you prefer?
Working on a story for Science about cuts to Canada's government researchers and labs. If you are affected by this please reach out (either on here or via my website). Anonymity is an option. 🧪
Did they also take extreme measures like wearing a seatbelt during takeoff and landing on their flights? Or the extreme measure of using a condom for sex with someone whose relationship history they didn't know? Did they insist on the extreme measure of having their chicken cooked to 165 degrees?
I know other scientists who are in the files solely because someone recommended them to Epstein. Some find it sobering to consider how easily they might have said yes to an invitation instead of no. I appreciate where your instincts led you when you got the call.
Agree.
