Do you have the data you could share with me?
The SCSN & SCEDC want your feedback!
We’re modernizing our systems and looking for community input to help shape future data products/services. The survey is open to everyone in the research community, even if you’ve never used our data. It takes ~15 min and runs through March 1.

Why were you in Mexico City?
Yep. They have a lot of earthquakes. The 2017 was much closer and caused a lot of damage. I was Jefe del Departmento de Sismología in the Instituto de Geofísica in Mexico City at the time.
In 2012 there was a M 7 earthquake close to the Mexican one today. This was the news that I was in at the time. They really had problems with my name.

The M6.5 earthquake in Mexico was on the coast in Guerrero near the border with Oaxaca. Based on my experience there will be some damage close to it, like tvs falling to the floor. Mexico City people will feel it, but no damage. The alarm sounded before the seismic waves arrived in Mexico City.
This is really cool.
I ran into Kip Thorne in the lunch room at Caltech. He said he did work with people from the Seismolab where I work before he retired. Nothing like meeting a hero.
My student and postdoc giving talks. Great job!
My research group at AGU.
Please allow me to introduce myself. I'm a man of wealth and taste. Pleased to meet you. Hope you guess my name.
Holy crap.
Most if not all geophysics faculty at the R1 where I went to grad school would become ineligible for future federal funding if this ban passes congress. 🧪⚒️

Este sigue siendo de los mejores documentales de sismos en México... Y no solo porque me entrevistaron.

US Immigration uses facial recognition. I didn't need my passport to enter the country. Is that bad or good?
