Several freshly bottled jars of Seville orange marmalade arranged on a rustic wooden farm table. The set is bright and clear, some made with Doorly’s rum, others with Glenfiddich Scotch. The jars are still new from the pot, light catching the peel, ready for toast.
End of Seville season. Last batch set last week.
Doorly’s rum in some, Glenfiddich Scotch in others.
Bitterness first, sweetness after. As it should be. 🍊🥃

Like sourdough bread, do you put the cookie dough in the fridge and if so does it rise?
I love pistachios in everything.

A stack of sourdough discard cookies piled generously on a rustic, timeworn wooden table. Dark chocolate chips glisten against the golden crumb, with visible slivers of cashew and small chunks of pistachio embedded throughout. Flakes of Maldon sea salt are scattered across the surface and the table itself. In the foreground lie broken shards of dark chocolate, while in the softly focused background sit a small brown glass vase holding dried poppy pods and a simple ceramic flask. Food photography by Deana Smart-Zegna, styled with natural light and a warm, artisanal atmosphere.
Sourdough discard put to good use in these cookies with dark chocolate chips, pistachios and cashew slivers, finished with a pinch of Maldon salt. I suspect it will take some resolve to part with the batch before I keep them all. #cookies 🧸 🍪 🤎

The UK edition of the crown silence, out now!
Happy 🇬🇧 UK pub day to THE CROWN’S SILENCE—a deeply researched narrative history of the monarchy’s centuries-long entanglement with slavery. This is the new history book the far right loathes. Please buy it b/c it’s important history but—also—it will really piss them off if it does well in the UK!!😉😘

Last week no living person had seen a #kakapo lay an egg. Now you can watch it on our webcam: Rakiura laid her second today (15:01 on 25/1/2025). She'll probably lay another in 3 days' time. #conservation #kakapo2026 #birds www.doc.govt.nz/our-work/kak...

A rustic kitchen counter with a bread board holding slices of homemade sourdough and two bowls of leek and potato soup. The leeks and potatoes are from our allotment harvest.
Leek and potato potage. A winter soup, smooth and comforting. Gruyère stirred in at the end for a touch of richness. Served with homemade sourdough. Nothing fancy, just comfort in a bowl. ♡🫕・₊✧ 🥔🍃

Introducing one of our newest in the breakfast tweed collection… This is cranberry orange scone! It coordinates beautifully with the collection, particularly with berry muffin, latte and espresso, for building a fade.

Old fashioned pumpkin pie
Apple flognarde tart
Pear bourdaloue tart
I’ve got pies and tarts on my substack…each one an old, authentic, traditional recipe but so modern. Spinach frangipane, pumpkin, apple flognarde, poires à la Bourdaloue.

Chef Skye Gyngell, who pioneered the slow food movement, dies aged 62
Tributes paid to ‘culinary visionary’ who was early celebrity proponent of using local and seasonal ingredients
Very sad to hear of Skye Gyngell’s passing today. Her cooking has inspired me for years and her books remain a trusted reference. Her seasonal approach and distinctive style made her extraordinary. She will be missed. #SkyeGyngell
