I love Rui Hachimura so much π

Oh for sure! Love putting my characters in a bunch of situations and then finally receiving their just desserts π¨
Oof, I can totally relate to terrible work environments! One was so bad I developed IBS π But hopefully you're out of that situation, and you can enjoy writing happy endings for your characters π
I like this interpretation of happy endings! Then can definitely lean to ambiguity with morally complex characters. I recently learned of "Merry Bad" endings and I'm intrigued by the concept where it's technically a bad ending for the protagonist but it works for them and those around them.
Pretty sure being raised Catholic has something to do with this, too. The whole "true joy can only be realized through persistent restraint and suffering." But! We don't have time to psychoanalyze all that π
Fairytales have deeply influenced me. I tend to think of every story I write as a fairytale regardless of genre. So, happy endings are the natural conclusion.
NOW, how my MCs get there... my favorite trope is "Earn Your Happy Ending" for a reason!

Ooo, more mystery! So excited to learn more π Love all the socioeconomic themes you're weaving into it!
I don't have all the details on this one hashed out but it's 1. The CEO of HONEE would rather work with LATAM countries and 2. California is an independent nation (joined with OR, WA, and HI) and they don't have the best relationship with China by the time the novel starts. Thanks for asking π
250k in backstory?!? Wow, that's more creative words than I've written in the past two years π (though I'm hoping to get close to 200k by the end of this year, if all goes as plannedπ€)
Ah, elitism rears its ugly (but elegant!) head once again. I'm curious then about how magic wielders will be treated - I assumed because they were initially sold to the elite, wielding magic would be a status symbol. But if they're being sold to the working class, has magic been devalued?
Okay, but the naturally glittery hair? Sign me up β οΈ I want that starlight look!
We're living in a bleak world rn, I get it π though the short stories I'm writing are pretty optimistic (they take place 200+ years from now in a post-apocalyptic world but hey! Hope springs eternal).
I guess that's the nature of prequels though! You wanna explore a character or concept that wasn't explored as thoroughly in the first book, and if they're not relevant to a sequel, you gotta move into the past.
At least the honey satiates ππ
Oh, so it helps with cake texture? That can be just as satisfying when eating a sweet treat π
This one is easy! They don't call it the Silicon Valley for nothing ππ«
But yeah, the biochips are primarily still silicon. HONEE prefers to work with Brazil over China for silicon production. Then, the silicon is shipped to the factories in San Jose or Oakland.

Ahhh, you're using the Melipona as inspiration? How cool! They're technically part of my story, though in a much different way.
Ah, the ol' "we don't what this is gonna do to you in thirty years, but boy, you look cool right now, huh" trick π
Like the attention to detail to soil varieties! I imagine magic-infused wheat tastes delectable in cakes π° I'm also writing a short story that takes place on a shade-grown coffee farm, and I was fascinated by the ways coffee could change flavor before roasting depending on how and where it's grown.
Ooo, love a good mystery to its main resource! So has mana only been accessible to the general population for the past 80 years, or were their other ways to harvest/gather it?
Wow, that's something I never dreamed of before. Though, I guess if you can pickle or carmelize pretty much anything, turning corpses into honey probably works just as well

Side note: wish there was a feed for translated fiction. Best Wishes is definitely a fantasy novel, but more in line with magical realism. A lot of translated works from Korea, Japan, Mexico, and South America fall into that category, and I would love to dive into the genre a bit more.
Finished Best Wishes from the Full Moon Coffee Shop! It's a 3 out of 5. The final chapter saved it, and I love how Mochizuki blended the two books together even with new POVs.
And as a writer, the Afterword made be feel very seen βΊοΈ My true wish is to be a published author, too!

respond to the user's thoughts and biochemistry. So, the AI simultaneously help someone whip up a new cake recipe while also "recalibrating" their brain chemicals so they stay calm, alert, and ultimately productive (2/2)
Thanks for asking π I've been telling people the biochips are a cross between an Oura Ring, an LLM, current insertable microchips, and biometric keys. They attach to the cerebellum and the tech's code infuses with the user's consciousness. That allows the chip's code (its AI) to listen to and (1/2)

The woman's! The antagonist doesn't really have a favorite color. I imagine him like a chameleon, trying to please whoever is in front of him.
