I became a Morphine fan because Collective Soul covered them, funny enough. Their music is a *mood* I could never describe until I read "the soundtrack to a noir set on the moon". Digging this essay for driving through deserts alone, the Fitzgerald namedrop, & the hallucinated concert description.

Never heard Roads by Portishead until today, but have to say, as a former cruiser of Wisconsin's rural backroads in an Olds Cutlass Supreme at unsafe speeds, I am absolutely down with @dellegeller.bsky.social's assessment of what makes for a sad song of the 1990s.
