New record high in Toledo, Ohio for March 9th: 73F (previous record: 68F in 2021)
We tied today's record high of 68Β° in Toledo just before 2pm, and easily set a new one in the 70s -- first time this year in the Glass City! We'll have similar highs Tuesday by early afternoon, ahead of a front sinking slowly south and setting up the ingredients for those pop-up evening storms.
Storm Prediction Center risk area: 2/5 (slight) along/west of I-75, 1/5 (marginal) for rest. 60+ mph gusts possible, along with a lesser hail/tornado threat. Downpours likely through Wednesday. Primary severe timeframe: 8pm-4am.
While Tue PM/early Wed's storms are expected to lose steam as they trek east, damaging winds mixing down to the ground will remain the key concern with whatever cells develop. Given the wind shear along/south of the warm front, some spin-ups/hail can't be ruled out.
#Ohio #Michigan #storms
HAZARDS: Damaging wind gusts are the most likely impact from these cells, though large hail and tornadoes canβt be ruled out given the amount of wind shear to tap into overnight. Heavy rain may also lead to localized flooding through Wednesday.
WHEN: These cells will develop and race through between sunset Tuesday and sunrise Wednesday, though 11pm-4am is our current most likely window for severe threats.
WHAT: A warm front with temps near 70Β° will combine with increasing wind speeds overnight to generate thunderstorms, moving from west to east through NW Ohio/SE Michigan.
First Alert Weather Day: Strong storms possible in NW Ohio/SE Michigan late Tue-early Wed, most likely window 11pm-4am. Hazards: damaging wind gusts, large hail, isolated tornadoes.
Heads up: We're issuing a First Alert Weather Day for late Tuesday PM into early Wednesday AM (March 10-11), for strong storms developing after sunset and racing through NW Ohio/SE Michigan. π§΅π

Much of NW Ohio has been dealing with extreme drought conditions since October, though Wednesday will make up for some lost time. While those midweek showers will be scattered, 0.5-1" is expected for many (with isolated heavier downpours getting above the 1" mark).
