It's a simple matter of genetics. If there had been only 1 man & 1 woman, their family tree would have branched off for a few generations - and within a few centuries all offspring would have been so badly deformed and mutated, they would at least have been unable to reproduce, if live at all.
To be fair, I have a feeling that if America had been left to its own native inhabitants, they would be doing a LOT better than they are doing now... so if you think about it, in a way, she's not totally wrong.
