All being well, I'll be at Fantasycon, where I'll be reading *brand new fiction*. Plus I'll be talking about Fantasy & Gaming (of all kinds), post-COVID genre fandom and ten years on from Sad Puppies, amongst other things.

At Fantasycon, @thdray.bsky.social and I will be running our "Reading aloud for performance" workshop again at 6pm on the Friday.
Helpful tips for reading your work with impact, this workshop is good practice for old hands as well as new, and lets you have a go, too!

A 14th century stone window looking into an Arts and Crafts lounge.
There's a decent museum in the guest house too. If you're into the Arts and Crafts movement, there's some Morris and Co. wallpaper and furniture, plus a couple of restored rooms. I liked this 14th century stone window looking into an Arts and Crafts lounge.

Original red-orange plaster with vertical wooden strips spaced at regular intervals to decorate the walls.
There's still some original red plasterwork from the 14th century in the guesthouse museum.

Large stone building which was once the priory's guesthouse. Light brown stone, lots of mullioned, grilled windows and a red tiled roof. The gardens are in the foreground. Lots of yellow flowers I don't know the names of, sorry.
The guest house was in better condition, mainly because Sir Lowthian Bell decided to restore it (and reconstruct the monk's cell). Here it is from the gardens.

The broken remains of a stained glass window. No glass remains, only the stone arch and the edges of the carved stone frame that would have held glass.
Would've been a lovely window here, once.

Large expanse of grass and in the background, the ruins of the cell doors are dotted at intervals. The sky is overcast.
Once that bell rings, you've got to go to church. A huge covered cloister once connected all those doorways and led to the church and chapterhouse and all the useful places monks had to be.

The monk's workshop with a large spinning wheel and loom. Whitewashed stone walls, more diamond grille windows and wooden floor.
Upstairs, we find the workshop! Spinning, weaving, copying books, woodwork, lots of useful activity.

Dangerous, steep, tiny wooden staircase leading up to the monk's workshop. Dark wood paneling behind them
These stairs really are steep. Believe the sign next to the fireplace. You *have* to come down backwards. I am completely serious. My feet are a UK size 5 and they barely fit on the stairs.
