Nice view of the Donaghadee Lighthouse after some spectacular weather for our first field trip

Darragh OโBrien drafts in state agencies to find solutions to traffic congestion in the capital Transport Minister โnot writing anything offโ in bid to ease problem in urban areas
Has he considered not shelving rail projects? Not cutting funding for expansion of public transport could be worth looking at too.
Before I start fieldwork on offshore islands, I wrote about what the sea means to me.
Heritage, policy, climate change and a lot of soul searching from someone who grew up far from the coast.

I wonder how many of the victims were also wearing shoes.
Ah thank you so much for this Marc! ๐
Apparently, yesterday was St Berahert's Day (who knew?), so altogether timely to share this beautiful piece by @aislinnn.bsky.social on the holy well named after him in Co. Tipp.....

Anton Savage's comment that โ98% of pedestrians killed werenโt wearing hi-visโ shows a lack of understanding of statistics.
If few people wear hi-vis while walking, then of course almost everyone killed wonโt have been wearing it. Without comparing actual risk rates, that figure tells us nothing.
If we want to reduce risk, we need to follow the evidence.
And the evidence is clear: mandatory high-visibility clothing laws do not meaningfully improve safety for people who cycle.
What does make a difference is better, properly segregated active transport infrastructure.
Ireland No. 1 in Europe - yet again. GHGs rose faster (+3.2%) in Ireland in Q3 2025 than ANYWHERE else in Europe.
#Climate action, my eye.
Itโs encouraging that the Supreme Court ruling could stop some of these projects.
But once again, weโre seeing narrow, sensational, bizarre coverage that fixates on how inconvenient it might be to pause road building, while ignoring the far greater and ongoing harm caused by climate breakdown.
Finally, a place for Dublinโs stilt community to gather.
On the Grow College Green project and Irelandโs habit of treating โprogressโ as a goal in itself.

Head 12 Exemption from the Act of 2015 Provide that: Any function or exercise undertaken under this Act shall be exempt from the provisions of section 15 of the Act of 2015. Explanatory Note This Head provides that the provisions of section 15 of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 do not apply to any functions or exercises undertaken under this Bill.
An appalling proposal is hidden at the end of the Governmentโs Bill on the airport cap; it would exclude decisions under the legislation from the current obligation on almost all public bodies to consider their climate impact and to be consistent with climate objectives.
Supporting Irish food is not sentimentality, it is means supporting the local economy and buying traceable quality. It needs to be supported on the shelf, supported in policy, supported in oversight.
Another brilliant take by @aislinnn.bsky.social!
Trust is the real ingredient in Irish food branding.
And right now, people are asking who carries the proof burden.
I wrote about Bord Bia, organics and uneven scrutiny.

The Schoolsโ Collection was compiled between 1937 and 1939 under the supervision of the Irish Folklore Commission. At the time, there was a growing fear that Irelandโs oral tradition was disappearing and had gone unrecorded under colonial administration.

Another excellent piece by Pรกdraic Fogarty. The Nature Restoration Law and the Land Use Review offer the government a real opportunity to address challenges like flooding head-on, but I have little faith theyโll take it.

On RTE 1 there, Today with David McCullagh, @mcculld.bsky.social asks: "what advice would you give to road users?"
RSA spokesperson: "Very dangerous conditions for drivers." Continues to talk about drivers. Drivers only.
DMC: "any advice for any other road users such as cyclists?"
RSA: "Eh...."
If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.
Democracy dies in oligarchy.
Conscious any discussion on transport is polarising but can we agree on:
๐ Less speeding in cities and towns
๐ฎโโ๏ธ A Garda focus on speed enforcement
๐ฃ Road design and landscaping to reinforce this
๐ดโโ๏ธ Cycling facilities that protect children (and ourselves)
๐ Confiscation of illegal souped-up e-bikes?

Itโs beyond time we got the conversation between us, humans, and nature going again.
