Best day:
-Browsing for hours to find the album worth spending my meager babysitting fund.
-The clerk who got me to buy a Firesign Theater album by acting out his fav bits.
-Sliding my fingernail along the plastic wrapper to take out the record.
-Reading the cover while listening to the music.

B-17 Bomber Intellivision Intellivoice Game Gameplay
YouTube video by The No Swear Gamer
Was reminded the other day that the barely-recognizable processed voices for the pilot and the bombardier in this game were Phil Austin and Phil Proctor of the Firesign Theatre.

Photo of a magic 8 ball with a 'goatse' version of the OpenAI logo and the words ChatGPT on it, next to a white box that says "ChatGPT offline version". Inset are photos of the 8-ball responses such as "That's a great question", "You're 1000% right" and "Too many requests try again later" and then another photo from the back of the box of a holographic authenticity sticker that says FAKE.
After much research and development I have made an offline version of ChatGPT.
Now you can save water and electricity while navel-gazing, and carry one of the world's most powerfully annoying AI chatbots in your pocket.

Trailing Clouds of Glory
vernacular Firesign Theatre scholarship of 1974
Found this very late in the game -> an early and great stab at describing @firesigntheatre.bsky.social via the Situationists. Fun to read and not pedantic; fans who listened to the records, read some theory and did their own thing.

Outer Perimeter, by Presage
4 track album
An excellent idea. Do you know this one? Sort of the opposite of Tangerine Dream, but a pretty great appropriation of EYKIW mrdibbs.bandcamp.com/album/outer-...

Satire is complicated in ways that the satirists sometimes don't consider. Kind of amazing that the Onion has stayed strong all these years (or is once again strong)

Unless it *is* flying in places we wouldn't look for it. In any case, I agree some of that stuff is great, but I couldn't stop thinking that it's actually them pointing the gun at the dog, and telling you you're responsible for the dog.

Thanks, @coolranch4lyfe.bsky.social baja cranberry whatever! The Lampoon story is vast and deserves someone from the outside to take it on (i.e. not fanboys or themselves). Looking (listening) back to that stuff I kept thinking how it would never fly today .

Art by Mahendra Singh from the book/DVD reissue "The Firesign Theatre Live at the Magic Mushroom", depicting Wile E. Coyote with mushrooms growing out of his head standing in front of a trompe l'oeil tunnel, holding a sign saying "LAST TUNNEL TO FRESNO"
Yes, ripped from the maw of the historical voidβor more specifically from an open reel tape marked simply "Claypool"!We've uploaded WAV and MP3 files to the Internet Archive where they'll be saved for posterity and free to all comers. Now FINALLY this great art by @mahendra.bsky.social can pay off

Beginning of my reckoning with Cheech and Chong (but not only them). C&C's records always sounded great, and there was a reason for that.

Tom Lehrer at a rave is a pretty good idea. I assume you know his immortal letter (scribed at age 84) granting 2 Chainz permission to sample "The Dope Peddler"?

Final ep of an 8-part series on radio sources for the Firesign Theatre's *How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All.*. This last installment felt eerily up-to-the minute. @firesigntheatre.bsky.social

I mentioned a while ago that I was obsessed with the Firesign Theatre's comedy LPs as a teen. I just got a copy of Jeremy Braddock's Firesign, which deconstructs the technical and cultural composition of these albums. Talk about a treasure trove!
