"Radicalization and Fascism in the Ustaša" by Constantin Iordachi & Goran Miljan examines the Ustaša’s path from interwar terrorism to genocidal rule, using new archival research and a newly translated militant memoir.

Professor Tomislav Dulić recently visited Kraków to give a guest lecture in the Erasmus+-funded course “Genocide and Mass Atrocities Under International Law”. A great opportunity to share a historian’s comparative perspective with engaged students!
Last week, our colleague Dr. Santiago López Rodríguez co-organized and presented at the international workshop "Victims and Bystanders: the Sephardi Jews and Spain during the Holocaust" at the University of Potsdam. His talk examined Franco, Salazar, and historiographical debates on neutrality.

We’re pleased to share a new publication by our colleague Dr Michelle Gordon! Her chapter, “Persecution, Oppression, and Subjection,” appears in A Cultural History of Violence in the Age of Empire, published by Bloomsbury Academic.

Our colleague Dr. Ivo Plšek has been awarded a MIRAI/STINT Research Fellowship, a competitive Swedish–Japanese program supporting high-impact international research collaboration. In 2026 he will serve as a Visiting Researcher at Sophia University (Tokyo).

Last week, our colleagues Dr. Santiago López Rodríguez and Matylda Jonas-Kowalik took part in the international conference “Collecting the Holocaust: Ethics, Memory, and Materiality” hosted by the Swedish Holocaust Museum and Swedish History Museum in Stockholm.
Our colleague Dr. Santiago López Rodríguez took part in the conference “Past and Present: Reflections on the Transmission of the Memory of the Holocaust and the Second World War in Contemporary Society” where he presented “Memoria selectiva: judíos españoles, franquismo y recuerdo del Holocausto.”
Yesterday we had the pleasure to host Valens Bimenyimana (University of Gothenburg and University of Rwanda), who, in our internal seminar, presented a draft of his article “Interacting with Memory: Social Categories and the Genocide Memorial Sites in Rwanda.” Thank you Valens!

This week, we had the honour of hosting Prof. Marcos Centeno! During his time at UHGS he gave a lecture on “Visual Memory, Erasure, and the Afterlives of Images from Hiroshima’s Peace Museum” as well as led an internal seminar. We are grateful for the discussions his visit inspired.
