Of course, Gale has killed people too and fought alongside Bella as they journeyed to Baldur’s Gate. It’s not something either of them gloat about, it simply needed to be done, and it’s hard keeping that truth away from their children forever. They will grow up and learn things. It can be scary 😭

Bella & Gale have to navigate this situation and tell them she’s still their mother, she’s still the kind, loving woman they’ve grown up with, but this is how she fights bad guys and keeps everyone safe. Eventually they do understand but it takes them a while, because Bella is scary when she fights.

I appreciate it sounds bleak but their mother is a paladin and she does kill evil doers as part of her work. But she doesn’t bring that home with her and she tries to shield the children from some harsh realities, which was a mistake really. But at the same time, how do you explain this to a child?

A while ago I wrote about Ellie and Tristan accidentally witnessing Bella killing a creature to protect the city and they get really upset because they haven’t seen their mama like that before.

And I was thinking of rewriting it because it’s an important part of their story.
