a key point for me: portland's streetcars have high ridership compared to other streetcars. but not compared to other light rail and BRT lines in portland, a much more competitive category

funny outcome that one of the main impacts of the massive financial deregulation that finance guys were always clammoring for was to turn their once-business-hours job into a 24/7/365 one

The most repulsive widespread AI slop is the adds for shitty clickbait games that you see everywhere now. I hate that shit so much. Particularly the survival one where they make these kind of facially interesting little dioramas of survival situations but they’re just total slop if you actually look

It's under-appreciate how bad it is for society to have rules on the books that are never actually enforced, like the requirement for dogs on the subway in NYC to remain in a bag.

It fuels a contempt for authority and a selfishness that's decimating norms required for urban living.

I mean saying military members have a huntingtonian responsibility to abstain completely from politics is like saying urban planners shouldn’t participate in housing policy discussions.

So these are literal examples of a 20 year old Honda and a 10 year old Honda. The size and volume are identical . People can't gaslight me like this because u see this stuff

For the bottom 40% of families, California taxes are LOWER than states like Florida and Texas.

In fact, 16 other states tax LOW-WAGE earners MORE than California taxes our HIGH-WAGE earners.

The evidence is clear, and the numbers don't lie.

Unbelievable that Maine democrats couldn’t find someone 50 +-10 years old with a normal boring job or a state representative to run for this race.

A major problem with our siloed transportation governance is a complete lack of intermodal coordination. All the following are happening at the same time:

1. PATH closed for maintenance between JSQ and and Newark.

2. Pulaski Skyway closed for maintenance.

3. Portal Bridge cutover schedule on NJT.

They Came to Spy on America. They Stayed to Coach Little League. In the wake of the Cold War, some Soviet bloc spies decided their fake American lives weren’t so bad.

NEW, from me: A secret chapter of Cold War history, told here for the first time. A deep cover Soviet Bloc spy in America at the end of the Cold War. The shocking moves by a European intel chief. And the incredible CI chess games by FBI and CIA counterspies.

They told me older, wealthy people were fleeing New York.

Alas one of cutest but silliest railways in Japan is looking at death. The Aigan railway in the mountains of Tochigi-Fukushima. Completed in the 1980's, part of the resort boom of those years.
(I do think it would have viable had other choices been made, but alas).

Everybody Loves to Hate Dubai. Here’s Why They’re Wrong. The city, under fire from Iran and assailed by critics, is a beacon of opportunity for people around the world.

"If you are an ambitious professional in a developing countryβ€”a Syrian doctor, an Egyptian lawyer, a Filipino engineer, and Indian accountantβ€”you stand little chance of quickly securing the visas and permits to work in your profession in the West. But in Dubai, you can..." (gift link)

One of the arguments the Class Is and AAR put up any time anyone talks about freight rail electrification is that there's no electric locomotives designed for US/NA freight service. While on the surface this claim is true, it's also not a big deal

To prove it, let's talk about this fucking thing

In part due to the fact Sacramento is a city filled with civil servants and good government nerds, our city subreddit is obsessed with a parking enforcement worker named β€œNakamura” who apparently nails mfs left and right who are illegally parked.
