Keen supporter of Living Wage Foundation The Foundation has had such success in reducing working poverty I am also a great supporter of hybrid working. All comments personal and nothing to do with my employer or the charities I support

Well
Left: President Trump, "Try finding wind farms in China, there aren't too many of them"
Right: There are 10,066 wind farms in China (operating, announced, construction, and pre-construction)
Not yet! It also has to be said that progress comes in fits and starts - sheβs still very scared of lots of things, including wide open spaces
#SophiefromRomania had her most sociable day yet - after surprising us by hanging out with our lunch guests she submitted to a tummy rub in the evening when local friends came round
The NYT had a report yesterday that he and advisers badly miscalculated Iranβs response. But I do believe the overarching aim of this term is to smash everything down so it can be rebuilt in the image of his Far Right backers,
Macron: βi do not believe that profound changes of regime or political systems can be achieved solely through bombardments.
βHowever, if the objective is to neutralise ballistic capabilities or a navy, that can be done within a matter of weeks.β
during the oil/gas crisis caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraime it was striking how some right-wingers tried to gaslight the public into believing the *biggest* problem with their soaring bills (at the time) was green levies rather than the oil/gas price going through the roof
Brexit made me special
@rolandmcs.bsky.social was this intended by Farage/Johnson as a win
Trump's decision to bomb Iran is now the greatest windfall to the Russian war effort on record. If it continues, it might save the Russian war economy.
Still, I'm sure Izzy and Ticey had a great weekend cooing sweet nothings and racism into each other's ears as the bombs dropped nearby.
This is an incredible book.
Good call, time to revisit it
Tim Marshall highlighted this in Prisoners of Geography

this sounds like absolute chaos: BC will be on the same time all year round (that's fine) but also individual "municipalities" will be able to decide not to and will continue to put the clocks forward and back. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/m...
The competence issue matters because what is at stake here is not, as many commentators claim and, no doubt, some political activists and voters hope, that Labour need to respond to the by-election defeat with a βlurch to the leftβ. Setting an immigration policy which is fair, rational, and consonant with economic and demographic needs is not, in itself, βleft-wingβ. Operating an efficient and humane asylum process is not, in itself, βleft-wingβ. Making a clear distinction between immigration and asylum policies is not, in itself, βleft-wingβ. To think otherwise is to cede the idea that these are somehow βextremeβ propositions and that the policies of virtually zero immigration, mass deportation, and the near-total rejection of asylum seekers advocated by Reform and others are the βnormβ or βmoderateβ.
As @chrisgrey.bsky.social says, rejecting Mahmood's plans would not be a "lurch to the left" but simply about restoring a basic level of (economic, political and administrative) competence.

Yep. Vast numbers of refugees created by this madness. None of them will get anywhere near Israel or the USA. We (Europe) will bear all the costs, every penny. And Trump whines about us not paying our way!
Stephen Fry: βIβm deeply worried by the darkening shadow thatβs going over the world, a shadow that we have to call fascismβ

Stephen Fry: βOh absolutely. Itβs a cult of power; and power only speaks to powerβ

The UAE has struck a desalination plant in Iran in response to Iranβs attack on its own plant, Israeli media reports. If confirmed it would be the first strike by UAE on Iran.
If critical water infrastructure is now considered a target, the suffering is going to be immense.
Some personal news...
Iran basically declaring war against the middle east region.
How long before the declaration is reciprocated?
