One of the more obscure formats in my #JAWS collection: the CED Videodisc. Released in 1981 after 17 years of development, it was already outdated by VHS, Betamax and LaserDisc. A commercial failure, but a very cool and rare format! 🦈📀

Born #onthisday in 1924, Hershel West who played Quint's mate in #JAWS. Here he is in a non-used scene arguing with Quint about going out to hunt the shark.
TEST FOOTAGE from 08-20-74 on Martha’s Vineyard, which is cited as the first successful attempt to work the shark on cue. It would eventually become clogged with salt-water, but it was a big step forward 🦈 #jaws
This week’s #JAWS project 🦈 I finally made my own “Bruce” for the JAWS room! A fiberglass shark head just wasn’t JAWS enough—so I reworked the teeth, repainted him, and now he’s pride of place in the Jaws cave.

Bruce, the shark from #Jaws had to be covered as #film makers felt the success of the #movie was largely dependent on the #shark. After a break-in at 'shark city', photos of Bruce were leaked to the press, so he was literally kept under wraps for the rest of production.

Robert Duvall was offered the lead role of Police Chief Martin Brody in #JAWS but turned it down because he only wanted to play Quint. Director Steven Spielberg felt Duvall was too young to play the salty fisherman.

Fritzi Jane Courtney aka Mrs Taft in #JAWS, JAWS 2 and JAWS The Revenge was on this day born (1923).
She formerly worked for Channel 6 (NBC Affiliate) where she wrote copy, and while there she became the first in New England on air drama critic.

Slappy birthday to Lee Fierro, AKA Mrs Kintner, born #OTD in 1929. As well as #JAWS did you also know she was also in #JAWSTheRevenge? Fierro passed away in 2020.

Thinking of #JAWS 3-D star Simon MacCorkindale who was born on this day in 1952. Simon was a great actor who brought Philip Fitzroyce to life and always guaranteed national coverage.
Remembering JAWS author and shark conservationist Peter Benchley who passed away on this day 20 years ago in 2006.
