This is very difficult to read, but I think this is the first time I’ve seen a story feature the perspective of a surviving teacher like this, and it’s so important. “Students called and texted… What their own parents could not fully understand — the worst moment of their lives — Ms. Schamis could.”

Nancy Johnson's PEOPLE OF MEANS is a mother/daughter story following two timelines: Freda, the mother, during the Civil Rights movement, and daughter Tulip, who becomes involved in protesting after the Rodney King verdict. #ewgc

DEATH OF THE AUTHOR by Nnedi Okorafor explored so many themes: family dynamics, disability, creativity, fame. But my favorite part was the book within a book, Rusted Robots! #ewgc
