You're not just right, you're emphatically correct.
There's a line in something I've written that's "It's not just X, it's Y" and it's a perfectly good line that makes sense and I don't want to change it but even to me it reads like ChatGPT now, and that sucks.
Most episodes are long and dense (episode 2 is a bit shorter), so it's not really designed to be binged per se. You can, but you can also enjoy it as a more serialized experience.
Don't worry too much about it - the plot is complicated, but the characters will also explain stuff when necessary (because it's complicated for them too).

I grew up thinking it was a classic, not realizing it was critically derided.
One of my favourite parts of Midnight in Babylon is Benjamin Kroger's monologue as Sherman Perry. Recording it was a profound experience. We had a long personal conversation, then he did ONE take, and it was so full of truth and pain that we didn't need another.

I LOVE Gospels of the Flood, so my bar was already really high, but this first episode managed to surpass my expectations and break the ceiling! What a treat to detective and cosmic horror fans!
There would theoretically be ways to adapt it to TV, but it is very heavily rooted in its medium. I always write for the strengths of the specific medium I'm working in - a game story is different from an audio story which is different from a novel, etc.
It is tagged as Explicit, so maybe something to do with that?
