I like to think that this article accurately describes the vast majority of Albertans. However, it clearly does NOT describe those who make up Alberta’s current provincial government, as they have been working overtime to poison Alberta’s relationship with the rest of Canada.

Considered transportation in each of our 5 house purchases, including our most recent one where we sought a smaller house, with a large yard and garage (for hobbies), close to downtown, within easy walking distance of a C-Train station. A tall order, but happily we did manage to find it!

But if we instead switched back to permanent mountain standard time then drive-in movies could become a thing again!

I make an effort now and then.

Recorded the Grammys the other night, then skipped through stopping to watch/listen to each performance. Among the new songs performed I can’t say that I heard much that I would be inclined to listen to again.

It has occurred to me that when I leave home in my car, without leaving β€œcar space” I can go anywhere in my neighbourhood, city, province, country, or even to another country on the same continent, but when I leave home on foot, without leaving β€œpedestrian space” I can go β€” around my block. πŸ€”

Curb cuts can cause issues for pedestrians, as they create undulations and sloped areas in sidewalks, which can cause stumbles, especially in the dark, and slipping hazards in winter. I much prefer the continuous sidewalk concept.

To clarify, when Max says β€œAlberta”, he is referring Alberta residents and businesses, not the Alberta government. The Alberta government does not pay federal taxes (or any share of its O&G royalties, or any equalization or other transfer payments) to Ottawa.

Ace β€” in what ways has the Canadian government been blowing smoke up Albertans’ asses? Please be specific.

Now if you had instead referenced the current AB government, I would have been on board with that, and could have contributed several examples.

15.02.2026 19:21 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Interesting fact β€” as equalization payments are calculated using national average tax rates, & as AB’s low rates drag that average down, if the AB govt were to introduce a PST it would both eliminate its own deficit AND reduce the amount of equalization that QC & the other have not provs receive! 🀯

15.02.2026 18:31 πŸ‘ 5 πŸ” 2 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

However, even if equalization formula was amended to fix that β€œloophole”, it would have no impact on AB. As equalization is effectively a welfare program for provinces, so long as AB continues to be the province with the highest fiscal capacity it will not receive payments, nor should it expect to.

Suzanne β€” my understanding is that HQ’s revenues ARE included, but those revenues are lower than they would otherwise be as the QC govt has instructed HQ to sell electricity to QC residents at a discounted price. AB govt can’t do the same for oil as it does not have a prov Crown corp oil producer.

Are the foundations of the Alberta separation proposal sound?

Are they capturing all of the costs an independent Alberta would have to budget for? Or are they missing key factors?

13.02.2026 20:39 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 4 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 1

Speaking of misinformation that fuels support for AB separation, here’s a recent example from the AB Premier β€” β€œwhy are we running deficits when we're sending so much money to Ottawa so that they can give it to other provinces?”.

It is the AB govt that is running deficits, & it sends $0 to Ottawa!

If Councillors understood this then they would realize that the way to address legitimate concerns regarding redevelopment in the City’s low density areas is not to repeal their R-CG zoning, but rather to ensure that an LAP with well-crafted locational rules is in place to manage that redevelopment.

12.02.2026 09:52 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Many, including Councillors, are unaware that new discretionary developments are expected to comply with BOTH the parcel’s zoning AND any applicable LAP. This means that LAPs can override zoning β€” eg. See S. 2.2.1.6 of the Westbrook Communities LAP, which limits where 3+ unit developments should go.

My concern is the amount of damage separatists are doing, and will continue to do, to Alberta’s economy and reputation in the process.

Most of the tension can be attributed to disinformation and rage farming, including by UCP Premiers and Ministers.

Conservatives spent over a decade feeding the insatiable appetite in Alberta for anger and alienation towards Ottawa.

Now, like Jason Kenney, they need to step up and slay the beast they helped create before it does even more damage. #cdnpoli #abpoli

You would think the federal Conservatives would be lining up to denounce AB separation. Losing the 37 or so seats that AB is virtually guaranteed to deliver each federal election would be devastating to the Conservatives’ chances of forming government.

Alberta tracked miscarriages, stillbirths, and infant deaths from measlesβ€”but heavily censored the records. Why hide preventable tragedy from the clinicians and families who needed to know? https://thewalrus.ca/alberta-knew-measles-was-harming-pregnant-patients/

No, but if Mr. Kristof wants to make a comparison, he should do so using a consistent base of measurement, rather than requiring his readers to know what portions of total government spending in the US takes place at the federal vs the state and local levels and then do the math themselves.

08.02.2026 13:19 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

So what does 2% of the US federal budget plus 1/3 (33.33%) of state and local spending work out to in terms of combined government spending on education in the US? How much less than the 22.5% amount mandated in Taiwan?
