How did you build your writing practice/habit while in grad school? I get better as I write more frequently, but early-stage grad school comes with long stretches of reading & frantic note taking, not producing things for external consumption! #philsky #PhDsky

Saw an interesting thread from a well-known data sleuth yesterday. He was claiming that fraud was the primary reason for "replication crisis" and that it's very widespread in science. Now that's a view I never held myself which kinda explains why we diverge on many other matters of science too 1/N

picture of a medieval seal showing a phallus and testes (?? why??)
My daughter, a history major student, works on a digital humanities project that digitizes seals. Your personal seal expresses something about you (identity, personality etc). So what to make of this medieval dick pick? The phallus is the main iconographic element. Fascinating.

This tells me that I apparently edit far more intensely / repetitively than some others. Currently on draft four of an article! Hard to imagine letting a howler like this by even if I were using GPT to draft parts of something.

Very good, indeed. Although Henrich et al. were clear in 2010: non-WEIRD isnβt a thing. But nonethelessβ¦much of social science continues problematic essentialism of broad cross-sections of human cultural diversity.
We tried to make a similar point :

It's okay to be an inefficient writer
You don't need to maximize efficiency to be successful
βThere is already so much written out there, and I don't think I'd be happier [β¦] if I aimed for (more) efficiency.β Insightful reflection by @helenreflects.bsky.social. Iβll take the idea that the world doesnβt need more more more from us but could use our best & most enjoyable writing! #PhDsky

Iβm so sorry for psychologyβs loss, whatever it is
The plane crashed and nobody checked the bodies
I am fascinated by this piece, about the (alleged) faking of data with studies on embodied cognition by Gino and Ariely.
It's really worthwhile reading this as it is a meditation on psychology as a discipline, and notably that if lots of research proves fake, nothing much changes. 1/

Not so fast...pretty sure @rabbitholer.bsky.social only removed Medtwitter from the title to save space. It's still a tag word for the feed

There are 10 in the thread.
One of them says you need to add a username when you are on someone's profile page, trying to send them a post. Twitter auto-adds their username. It didn't here until last week when we got an app update.

This is why some of us remain on Twitter.
It's why we continue to report & not simply block.
This is why some of us stay active there despite the racists, antisemitics, antiscience, antiLGBTQ ppl.
