This was a super fun and challenging project to work on, trying to synthesise measurements from three different satellites π°οΈπ°οΈπ°οΈ over 10 years ποΈ to make never-before-attempted observations. Big thanks to the @esaearth.esa.int Living Planet Fellowship for supporting this work π
In the paper we combine data from #ESA CryoSat-2 #ISRO/#CNES SARAL/AltiKa and #ESA SMOS to showcase how vertical density heterogeneity across the ice sheet changes through time and space. The firn layer plays a critical role storing meltwater and buffering sea level rise π§π
π A new study just out in #IEEE JSTARS from #GEUS @anja-ruti.bsky.social, @eo4cryo.bsky.social and I on studying heterogeneity in the #Greenland Ice Sheet firn layer from space π€―

Heading to #EGU26 and use #radar to study terrestrial and planetary surfaces (both icy and rocky π€―)? Have we got the session for you!
Consider submitting an abstract to #EGU26 CR6.3 by January 15 2026.
Read more about the session here www.egu26.eu/session/56853
Hope to see you there!
It may be difficult for the untrained eye to see - but we were of course dressed in the colors of glaciers at last weeks Christmas party at DTU Spaceπ§βοΈπ
Brand new website for the Cryo Group at DTU is now live! Thanks to @reneefredensborg.bsky.social for making us look so good π€ͺ

The winners!!
Congratulations to DJ Upside Down Turtle and DJ Disco Disc for their triumph in the inaugural Cryosphere Group Disc Golf Championship! π₯³π₯³
A lovely afternoon spent with great colleagues and only "a few" discs had to be dug out of trees or fished out of water. Time to start practicing for next year π
What a bonkers story π€―

Congratulations and well-deserved!
Exciting news from our team to start the weekend! πOur own eo4cryo.bsky.social has joined the Strategic Advisory Board for the EUβs #DestinationEarth initiative π Read more about the expectations for the initiative and @eo4cryo.bsky.social's role here: www.dtu.dk/english/news...
So exciting! Congrats to the @europaclipper.bsky.social and REASON teams. A huge milestone on the way out to Jupiter!

A big thanks to the @villumfonden.bsky.social Experiment Program and the @esaearth.esa.int Living Planet Fellowship Program for supporting this work!
@anja-ruti.bsky.social @eo4cryo.bsky.social and our colleague Nicolaj from @dmidk.bsky.social did this by looking at how strongly radar signals bounced off the surface of the ice sheet. We then validated our results using a bunch of in situ measurements and compared against state-of-the-art models.
And why not one more while we're at it. Have you ever wondered how surface conditions across #Greenland change with time? Us too! Here we recovered 11 years of "surface" density changes from satellite altimetry. A whole new window into how Greenland is changing. doi.org/10.1038/s415...
Better late than never. Big thanks to @anja-ruti.bsky.social and @eo4cryo.bsky.social for all their help as we try to unravel #Greenland Ice Sheet surface roughness from radar altimetry. Hat tip to the @esa.int Living Planet Fellowship program for supporting this work! doi.org/10.5194/tc-1...
