What on earth is this then? A bundle of reeds suspended from the roof of an 18th century Lincolnshire house. An uncommon sight but we have testimony from a former landowner to explain it. To find out more, join me on 2 April for The Folklore of Ancient Buildings:

Which hopefully doesn’t mean you end up with bruises all over the backs of your legs like I used to get when we had Gemma who definitely couldn’t resist a) a large stick and b) β€œaccidentallyβ€œ whacking it in to you as she walked past

Some more 20mm German stuff for my motorpool. 3D printed StuG III Ausf. F/8 from Night Sky Miniatures and some Einheits-LKW from PSC.
Photographed in front of a HandiWorks backdrop as usual.

Scott writes with authority and is clearly an expert on her subject....I suspect Scott’s book will be the go-to opening for any student of this period in Scottish military history.

The way the temperatures dropping here I’ll probably need a hot ale!

The plan is to do a core Stirland force with mercenary support. I will have a steam tank though mainly as I couldn’t afford one back in the early 90’s when I last had an Empre army

Well funnily enough I am actually working in the same world as you are, seeing as I’m creating an Empire (Stirland) army but using late medieval figures for the bulk of it

Change and Continuity in English Armies, 1453–1513 | Transactions of the Royal Historical Society | Cambridge Core Change and Continuity in English Armies, 1453–1513

My latest article is published in the RHS and is available through Open Access. In which I propose a radical (perhaps controversial) new explanation for how and why English armies and soldiers changed across the Late Medieval-Early Modern divide #medievalwarfare

Thanks for everyone's comments on the Krieg update photos. I thought I'd put together this episode of the Imperial Vox Dispatch to show how the ordinary Imperial citizen would follow their exploits. Enjoy!

#FestiveTankChallenge2025 complete! I've absolutely loved building and painting this tank and I'm very chuffed with how it's turned out. Huge thanks again to @sonicsledgehammer.bsky.social for his YouTube tutorial and to @tomjmegan.bsky.social for setting up this annual event.
