This is why I dislike conspiracy theories about evil shadow cabals secretly running things
It makes scapegoats that canβt be punished/held accountable/changed, & gives the ppl in power WAY too much creditβtheyβre not Evil Masterminds, theyβre just incompetent negligent & hateful ppl w lots of money

I hate to be one of those commenters, but... so.... are we going to DO anything about this? Or just have our interns post online about how bad it is?
Washington voters want this war to end YESTERDAY. Or, preferably, 11 days ago. But, failing that, NOW is the best time to end it. By whatever means.

"In 1988, an anniversary edition of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reprints the rumor, but omits followup information, incorrectly claiming, 'itβs not known what became of the mayor.'"
It very much was. In fact, "when he died in 1906, six Seattle mayors were his pallbearers."
Whoops.

It's bizarre to me how many people in the comments here seem to think that automation is going to translate into more freedom for the working class.
When has that ever panned out? How much leisure time do you have, after years of these "innovations"? We are Charlie Brown trying to kick the football

Illustrated poster titled "Deep-Sea Mining Facts #1" with an underwater theme. It highlights the large-scale and irreversible impacts of deep-sea mining, emphasizing the deep ocean's coverage of 2/3 of the planet's surface and its essential biodiversity. Includes logos for Seas at Risk and Deep Sea Conservation Coalition. An animated octopus and coral are at the bottom.
With the March session of the International Seabed Authority Council underway, weβre setting the record straight.
Here are some key deep-sea mining facts:

We are a secular democracy. If you don't like the freedom of religion, you are welcome to move somewhere else.
In America, you can be Christian, Muslim, Jewish, or anything else. It's written into our Constitution. πΊπΈπΊπΈπΊπΈ

He's generally a gentle kid, and good with neighbor cats and my mom's cat, he's just kind of loud and enthusiastic and sometimes forgets the right manners. I'm mostly worried he'll follow her around trying to force cuddles. We've warned him that won't work, but he'll probably have to experience it.

That was what tipped me over to "we can do this!" A cat who is familiar with kids ages 4-12 should be comfortable just walking away or otherwise setting firm boundaries when Squidling inevitably pushes her limits.
(If he gets scratched, fine. But it sounds like she warns first, which is huge.)

Some more thoughts:
Using AI in this way detracts from your ability to learn the craft of #writing. Writing is not just about the end result. Itβs about the process of learning how to write and revise.
Itβs like using training wheels forever (great metaphor by the great @raqueledits.bsky.social!).

Oh, interesting! I'll look into those, thank you! (Still a little unsure of exactly how long the cat's fur is, we'll know for sure when she's at home, but it seemed longer than my old cat's on one meeting.)

Friends who have had long-hair cats before:
My grooming experience is limited to medium-hair cats. Is a Zoom Groom enough to start, or should I get a more srs bzns brush for actual long hair?
Cat in question is said to like brushing, and politely notify with a paw (no claws) when she is done.

Big news: We met a kitty at PAWS on Sunday, and she will come home with us tomorrow afternoon. She's a nice mid-age lady who is used to kids, and gave us all copious headbutts and rubs.
Her current name (Bellatrix) was vetoed due to authorial asshatery; the Squidling dubbed her Bluebell. Pics TK.

'Headless chicken monster' spotted swimming in Antarctic Ocean
Unlike many other sea cucumbers, the headless chicken monster can swim up into the water column.
Today, on International Women's Day, I, a human woman, want you to know there is a type of sea cucumber called the Headless Chicken Monster

Yeah, my recollection (dim though it may be) is that clothes were made of furs back then, and probably the furs would have had holes made in the with awls, then sewed with the needle.
I'm not a professional, though, just a well-read information magpie. π
