RICK & MORTY. Never seen a single episode, because so much of the fandom is unbearably obnoxious that I reflexively blame the show for making them that way. (See also: IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA).
(Yes, I'm aware R&M was *made* by some problematic people. Different issue.)
Pretty much the entire "zombie" genre.
I actually love how the HtTYD series went full into, "actually, harnessing these sentient creatures to use as beasts of burden is *also* wrong, and we shouldn't do it", actively pushing back against the initial film's core idea.
It's just so good.
They're horrid!
My niece *loves* those things.
Lightly pan-roast a small handful of broccoli florets & shredded/grated Brussel sprouts in olive oil & black pepper. Set aside. Prep a box of white cheddar macaroni & cheese per instructions; once it's ready, add a dash of paprika and chipotle, then stir in the roasted veggies.
Thank me later.
The entire metafiction bit where Julia Roberts's character gets mistaken for actual Julia Roberts by Bruce Willis is just brilliant.
I actually leveled up just by reading this post.
The original can be kinda nastily mean-spirited at times, yeah, but even if that werenβt the case, Iβd go to bat for The New Batch just because Rick Bakers mogwai and gremlin redesigns are so great. The Gizmo puppet looks & works so much better, and heβs a more proactive character in it.
I love how thereβs a ton of lilβ easter eggs if youβre familiar with the game (I chortled when the characters from the 1980s cartoon popped up in a cameo), but the movie still 100% works if youβre completely unfamiliar.
Iβm not too proud to admit that a problem with my California state taxes that has been frustrating me all week was caused solely by me mis-reading a single instruction.
I actually love the way The First Avenger works as a double-bill with Johnston's earlier The Rocketeer, to the point where one could almost call them spiritual siblings.
It's not his strongest film; it is still a piece of corporate IP, and there are some script beats that were required by the studio, but it still has a lot of his signature touches, and takes pains not to just repeat the first film.
Since I see you trying this schtick with other people: antisemitism *is* white supremacy. They are not two separate things.
Now, get a fuckin' life.
It's very much a Guillermo del Toro film: interesting creature designs, anti-authoritarianism, misunderstood outsiders craving connection with others, and all of that. His recent version of FRANKENSTEIN shares a LOT of DNA with it.
Bucking the trend, I actually prefer the original film over its first sequel.
The way Hellboy 2 is so clearly shaped by Del Toro's experiences making Pan's Labyrinth and the way the studio loosened the reign's after that film's success; he just goes so big in the best way with it.
Don't insult my intelligence.
Young Guns 2 is kind of a funny one, because it's technically more historically accurate than the first, *but* because they'd ahistorically killed off a few characters in the first one, they had to ahistorically kill off some others in their place in the sequel.
Oh shit, forgot Gremlins 2: The New Batch
Mad Max - both The Road Warrior and Fury Road
Babe 2: Pig in the City
Iron Man 3
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (strongest of the TOS films, even TWoK)
Black Sails (technically, a prequel to Treasure Island)
Dude went on a white nationalist podcast six weeks ago and said it was his favorite and that he's a long-time fan.
I have a tattoo of a similar size on my left pec. It took ~5 hours to do. Even if I'd been shitfaced at the start of the process, the only way I would have been by the end is if I'd kept drinking throughout.
And a shop that has a totenkopf just hanging out on the display way is going to have other hate symbols, too. If Platner somehow stumbled into a place like that and didn't notice all of that, he's even dumber than my already low estimation.
And that tattooer is almost certainly someone who already has a reputation for doing that kind of work, whom you would actively have to seek out and wouldn't just stumble upon by chance.
I genuinely think our overall unwillingness to put stories and franchises on the shelf and move on to new ones is a sign of a cultural sickness. Separate from the very toxic ways fan cultures often operate.
I work with several former service personnel who did terms in OIF and they also conflate the two pretty regularly, alas. Or just call it "Gulf War II."
Uh, how is a giant slug *buff*? That isβ¦.not how cephalopod bodies work.
