That said, I don’t think BB was a failure, I think it did exactly what it wanted to do. It just sucked that it took that direction.

Gilligan got too caught up in the fan forums and started letting it influence the show.

I do agree with this to an extent. Bringing in the neo-Nazis as the villains because you had written yourself into a corner, and then giving Walt a heroic send-off, fed into the worst elements of the fandom.
