Another of my favorite pastimes is cross stitching. This is a design inspired by a 1960's stamp of 'The Great Wave Off Kanagawa'. Developed from stock imagery of the original art, generated and customized into a pattern, and then stitched by little ol' me.

In the 60’s, Jane Goodall observed a chimpanzee stripping a stick of leaves & then using it to find termites to eat. This use of tools, an intelligence previously only equated with humans, led to change in our view of animal behavior & that of our own.

Somali β€œdonkey”, smallest of the equid family which includes zebras & horses, is a distant relative to our domestic donkey. They are known for the lovely striped markings on their legs and great speed.

Like their cousins, the squirrel, chipmunks are very beneficial to the environment due to their eating habits. They will β€˜squirrel way’ nuts, berries, and seeds for the leaner winter months, which helps spread plants and support biodiversity.

For Earth Day, I want to remind us of our wetlands. They protect & improve water quality, store floodwaters, and provide a home to various fish and wildlife.

Don't say that too loud! Mr. Snow might hear you. 😜 These are very beautiful. Are they in your garden or growing wild?

We foodies should protect the bat as they gather seeds & pollen during their hunt for pesky insects. They help to β€˜farm’ our bananas, avocados, and even the cacao bean – for chocolate! These flying creatures are responsible for our favorite snacks.

The American flamingo is 1 of 6 species of flamingoes including greater, lesser, puna, Chilean, and Andean. Although they can survive in harsh, salty environments, droughts & climate changes are taking their toll on our pink feathered friends

The wrack zone of a beach includes washed up items such as old leaves, branches, seagrass, shells, and other floating items that come from the tides. This is actually an ecosystem providing nutrients, shelter, and even food for many coastal creatures.
