(2/4) Benchmarking studies in #genomics and #bioinformatics show that analytical choices can lead to different results, even when using the same data.
In response, the #LepEU Workshop 2026 will focus on developing best-practice recommendations for reproducible #Lepidoptera genomics 🦋🧬

For the past two weeks, we've hosted Paty Machado & Jessie Pereira from the University of Campinas.
Together with Mar Repullés, Paty analysed genome-wide variation in Heliconius erato across the Atlantic Forest and Amazonia.

(3/3) 🧬🦋 Most butterfly and moth species today still retain chromosomes that directly match the ancestral Merian elements.
However, researchers also found extensive #genome reorganization in some lineages🕵🏼♀️

🧬 The chromosomes of most butterflies and moths can be traced back to 32 ancestral building blocks that have remained largely intact for over 250 million years: the Merian elements.
They’re named after the 17th-century naturalist and artist #MariaSibyllaMerian 🦋

During the 2-week course, participants will gain skills for refining real genome assemblies using Hi-C maps 🧬👩🏽💻

(1/3) What is genome curation and why does it matter? 🧬 Manual curation is the final step after genome assembly and is essential for producing high-quality, chromosome-level #genomes. This finishing step ensures accuracy before genomes are released for #research use.

It was great to start the week off by welcoming the second cohort of budding curators to the Project Psyche Genome Curation Workshop! Over the next two weeks they will become experts in piecing together genomes and will use these skills to curate some Project Psyche genomes! 🔎🧬
