A bill for funding marine carbon dioxide removal research.
The name -- ReSCUE Oceans Act -- makes it sound like we'd be rescuing the oceans, but it's hypothetically the reverse.

I saw this happen once in the Arctic. One whale keeping the entangled whale afloat for maybe 20 or 30 minutes.
A rescue team arrived and managed to cut it free.
Of all the different climate pathways, which one do you think we'll take?
This was a question from a student this morning in a high school class taught by @growinwsdom.bsky.social
I have probably 100 conflicting answers to this question, but I wouldn't be in this job if I didn't still have hope.
Our part of the coast is included in that 60%. These events will become more destructive as sea level keeps rising.
Thanks to help from folks at @gmri.bsky.social , we're getting new sea level monitors in place to track sea level rise. Data is just one part of the puzzle.

After the US admin cancelled the $B Climate + Weather Disaster dataset, @climatecentral.org hired the scientists who ran it and set it back up.
Now the 2025 numbers are in: it's 3rd highest year on record and highest year w/o land-falling hurricanes.

The Trump administration says it will dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research, a cornerstone for American climate and weather science. I went on NPR today to explain what this could mean for climate research.

Today I'm sharing one of my all time favorite books, Call Me American, by Abdi Nor Iftin, who grew up in Mogadishu, Somalia and now lives in Maine, US.
I've read it multiple times and will read it again. There's also a YA version.

βWe have an excellent reputation in the field, and we have a really lovely culture, so we are a highly desirable destination if you are a marine scientist,β said Bronk, of Bigelow Lab. βBut we canβt counter the fear of being detained at an airport and being shipped off somewhere without due processβ
