Which maybe sounds hyperbolic but a good way to control people is to first isolate them so they can’t exchange ideas and witness differing points of view IN REAL LIFE. And I say all this as someone who often travels and is alone. But I also regularly put intentional effort into being with people.
We need community and trying to find it in our lives is worth the effort. It’s more meaningful than highly edited glimpses into isolated routines set to soothing sounds that imply we can all be islands. Existing completely alone with no social connection makes us more vulnerable to fascism. ->
But I think the proliferation of this type of “lifestyle influencing” is particularly harmful to impressionable viewers who may not understand that existing entirely alone at all times is very hard to sustain and can be quite difficult on a person’s psyche. We are social creatures. ->
This is maybe a boomer opinion but I think we should be very weary of the content created by “I live alone and I have no friends” influencers. It’s not aspirational to exist entirely alone, all the time. It’s not wrong or bad to be alone or lonely; that’s often not in the person’s direct control. ->
