For @theguardian1.bsky.social I witnessed researchers attempt to spawn endangered white abalones, giant marine snails. It was a surprisingly hopeful experience, despite the challenges these creatures face (including the Trump administration):

If you missed my reading last week with Atmosphere Press, good news! It's online here.
I have an essay in the new issue of @theamscho about Gone With The Wind.
This is one of the most personal essays Iβve written, as it details my love of GWTW when I was a child & my disgust when I reread it on a trip through the South to discover that not only is it racist, itβs pro-KKK propaganda.
The websites of literary institutions, whether presses, journals, magazines, are often a hot mess. Have a physical address on your site. Have a way to contact you. Try an About Us page. Don't use images from 1998. For god's sake, you are professional communicators.
TOMORROW at 6 pm EST/3 pm PST I'll be reading with Katherine Elberfeld and Allyson S. Barkley on Zoom for the Playa Flamingo Live Author Reading.
If you're interested in Atmosphere Press's writing residency in Costa Rica, which I attended last year, I urge you to come. Register:
I was actually on board with that aspect of it for about half the movie, but then it took a turn and just got ridiculous.
I saw Wuthering Heights last night. People were laughing in the theater. It's basically fanfic.

Hey I know, how about you don't use ChatGTP so much for your "writing" that you end up having a romantic relationship with it?
Really enjoying Taylor Swift's new Opalite video.
Watch this, it's astonishing.
Ahh the time of year where people unironically post commercials advertising mega-corporations out of some kind of confused idea that it's real entertainment or, god help us, art.
I enjoyed this series, Cassandra. It's a horror series that combines the evil Nanny trope, AI, and smart technology in a really interesting, creepy way. Recommended!
Hey, I emailed my representatives demanding they speak out more aggressively about Trump, and the next day, one (of four) actually did.
So I'm taking credit for that.
Also it may not be a waste of time to contact them after all.
I was listening to her the other day too. It's weirdly comforting to listen to folk/protest music right now, at least for me.
How strange you mention her. Just a bit ago I saw Dar Williams talking about her streaming on Facebook. She said: "UPDATE - Universal Music has released the claims on Dar's music and the recordings are currently be repopulating to various streaming platforms." I guess there was an issue.
Today I have a very short story up on Every Day Fiction. It's called Kim.
The Greenlanders look so sad that they have to even entertain this nonsense. It's really heartbreaking.
Trump's approval rating is still at 40% somehow. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? No one has ever asked me whether I approve of the president. The answer is no.
Unpopular opinion: It is easier to make most French patisseries than it is to make a beautifully decorated layer cake.
So this is how World War III starts...
Happy new year! For a terrible year, it was okay sometimes. Here's my post of some of the milestones for me. Here's to 2026.
What an intense and wonderful weekend! Petaluma Readerβs Theatre performed a reading of Mrs. Dickens Christmas Dinner, the play I wrote with @marciaisms.bsky.social.
It was exciting to see our work be brought to life by these terrific actors. Thank you to everyone who came out to see the play.
The Press Democrat AND the Petaluma Argus-Courier interviewed Marcia Simmons and me about our play, Mrs. Dickens' Christmas Dinner, which is getting a staged reading here in Petaluma THIS WEEKEND. So exciting to see it come to life!

Last night I groomed my cats because they have fleas, which was unpleasant for us all. Then I had nightmares where the Jellicle cats from the musical Cats! invaded my house & sang at me while putting fleas in my bed. I woke up scratching nonexistent bites.
Lesson: Don't kill fleas before bedtime.
As someone who has foraged for mushrooms for years, I don't understand people taking the risks that allow this to happen. Don't eat anything that resembles a death cap or destroying angel or the other deadly ones. Free button mushrooms, or whatever, aren't worth the risk of *check notes* dying.
Stock price chart showing the 64% decline over the last six months for duolingo
Duolingo announced it was going βAI-firstβ just over six months ago. Since then its stock is down 64%.
