I worked at the VA too, and something else you couldn't even do was to look at any records (ANY AT ALL) of yourself, other VA employees, family members, or friends without getting fired. In fact to even try to look at anyone's records you had to acknowledge the warning screen to see them.

Gender might be irrelevant to some, but not to transgender people, and as a result that is a certified medical diagnosis called gender dysphoria which is recognized by the medical community. It's also the only reason I can think of why transgender people change their gender on any government ID.
It's not like you're changing your address. Changing your gender on your license shouldn't be kept on any Department of Motor Vehicles records. Why would they need to keep that kind of record, outside of to do exactly what they're doing, using discriminating tactics to erase people they don't like.
