It's such an infurating thing to try to explain to liberals here, that we've always been "that guy" and this is just the same shit but more blatant that we've been doing for ages and that this country is not salvageable and no mainstream politics will stop this

The way to understand this, I think, is that everybody knows that when Trump or Vance says "illegals" he's not talking about legal status, but about social desirability, and so people think that that distinction goes both ways.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Another friend put it to me like this: "ICE has made the classic Nazi mistake. They've invaded a winter people in the winter."

We have ~15 separate radio dispatches, one for each neighborhood, and dozens more for the suburbs/Saint Paul. Each dispatch/monitoring channel contains somewhere between 500 and 2000 people. At any given time there are probably a dozen mobile patrols and 100 on-foot observers in each neighborhood.
