Harry rolls his eyes with no malice and dips his head down to rest his forehead against hers.
Her soft hand rests against his scruffy cheek. "I love you, Harry," she whispers, then meets her lips with his.
Brown pupils dance around his face. "I love you," he says with a rough conviction, the three words he wishes he'd said sooner.
Against his chest, he feels her breath catch, and finally, when her eyes fall on his, her lips crane into a broad grin. "I knew it," she boasts.
"Come here." He tugs at her arm and pulls her into him, snaking his arm around her waist.
When she's flush against him, he can see the heavy beat of her pulse through her neck; still, her eyes refuse to meet his. He grabs the sides of her chin and tilts her head toward him.
"Hermione!"
"What?" she huffs, seemingly annoyed that he's cut her off.
"Anyone tell you, you talk too much?"
"Harry!"
Her feet shuffle back, creating more space between them, space Harry has never wanted in the first place, but he catches her hand.
"Now Ron won't tell me how you are doing or why you broke up with Kate because he says it's not his place, but I know Harry. I know you love me. I've spent far too long trying to pretend you don't. I even put an ocean between us, for gods knows what reason, hoping it might change something—"
