Vote Green on May 7th for a strong progressive voice to tackle the social care funding crisis.

Swindon Council Green group leader Tom Butcher presented our proposal for a social care co-operative to the Council last Thursday. This could have saved the Council significantly in the future compared to paying private care agencies.

These poll results show that hope is finally winning over hate. And with everyone's help we can turn this support into Green wins in Swindon on May 7th

Since the Rochdale pioneers, co-operative enterprises have been a key pillar of the broader labour movement. Strange then that the Labour group voted down our proposal to set up a care co-operative in Swindon!

Our Green budget amendment included the construction of net zero temporary accommodation to help prevent homelessness. These would be constructed on a model used in Bristol as part of the 'Hope Rising' project. Sadly the Labour group voted it down.

If you want to elect hard workers who stand up for people and planet like Hannah, vote Green in the local elections on May 7th.

The door is open for plumbers, hairdressers, retail workers, baristas, nurses, engineers, care workers and all the ordinary people who keep this country going to take on the political establishment.

Congratulations to Hannah Spencer on her election as MP for Gorton & Denton from everyone at Swindon Area Green Party! The Green Party just put a plumber into parliament to speak up for the 99%. And we won't stop there.

And we recognise the financial dire straits the council is in. Years of Tory austerity and rising social care costs have left the council on its knees. Freezing pay for Councillors will allow us to divert funds to where it's most needed.

At Swindon Borough Council's budget meeting today, Swindon Green Party will propose to freeze Councillors allowances this year. We propose to use the money this would save to fund more SEND transport.

We've heard so much from SEND families who are struggling.

We can spend money now to reduce costs in the long term without having to make cuts to essential services that residents need.

We are proposing:
🏘️ £1.4m on Specialist temporary accommodation, providing small zero carbon homes that will aid homelessness prevention

Our approach has been investing to save. The council is currently being forced to sell assets to fund day to day spending. This is not a sustainable position to be in. It has been driven by years of Tory austerity and rising social care costs.

Tomorrow at 7pm the council will be setting it's budget. This will be against a backdrop of crippling austerity andrising social care costs that have brought local government in the UK to its knees. Labour promised to act but has failed to follow through in government.

We had a great day canvassing, huge turnout and lots of great conversations with residents about their concerns. Fly-tipping, speeding and dog poop were all topics of discussion! And Repi, Tom and Shad will all work hard as candidates in the Queen's Park ward to address these.
