We say goodbye to actor, filmmaker and activist Rob Reiner.
A dedicated storyteller with sincerity that imbued his prolific work and the causes he believed in, Reiner’s heartfelt portrayal of the human condition reminds us of the power of film and its abilities to stay with us.
What a horrible weekend for humanity.
LA: I’ll be presenting another rare B in 35mm this Sunday at the @amcinematheque.bsky.social THE CRIMSON CANARY (1945) is 64 mins of jazz-infused mystery and features ultra rare appearances by jazz artists Coleman Hawkins and Oscar Pettiford. A truly unique little film.

This is a film I like to watch every year around Valentine’s Day. It’s dramatic, funny, witty, sophisticated, and above all, romantic. Highly recommend to anyone and everyone. Director Frank Borzage was THE master romanticist in Hollywood in that era.
It wasn’t actually a WB tie-in although there were some WB and RKO (which they own) titles included. I really wanted to represent as many studios as possible and in the end, we got nine! 8 of the 20 films were also TCM premieres.
I don't know if it was a tie-in, but it was programmed by @jtarnold.bsky.social and he picked a wonderful assortment of off-the-radar stuff; I'd love a Part Two! My favorite was Passport to Destiny, a great role for Elsa Lanchester. TCM did a Letterboxd list: letterboxd.com/tcm_lb/list/...
Thanks Farran. I too love PASSPORT, and absolutely loved doing this series with TCM. As for a Part 2, well, stay tuned, there MAY be something in the works!
It’s a good one! Then again, they’re all good, except maybe the last one which didn’t star Dix.
That’s a favorite. I love the opening in that hard rain.
Friends in LA, this Sunday 1/26 at 1pm, I’ll be introducing a rare 35mm screening of THE PREVIEW MURDER MYSTERY (1936) at the @amcinematheque.bsky.social Los Feliz 3. A stylish whodunit set on a Hollywood studio lot, and one of dir Robert Florey’s best B films. Details/notes: tinyurl.com/2tkw8khs

I’m the guest on this month’s Cineversary podcast, discussing MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS both as a classic Christmas film and as a brilliant musical. www.cineversegroup.com/2024/12/cine...
Everything in this frame looks so meticulous… including him. He’s like a chemist!

Google said its quantum computer needed less than five minutes to perform a mathematical calculation that one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers could not complete in 10 septillion years, a length of time that exceeds the age of the known universe. nyti.ms/3DaZFH5
Tonight on CW from 8-10pm: “Best Christmas Movies Ever!”
I’m one of many interviewees in this new doc produced by my pal @moviemantz.bsky.social
LA-area friends, please come Sat Dec 7 to the Old Town Music Hall where I’ll introduce 2 holiday classics and sign books. At 2:30pm: THE BISHOP’S WIFE (1947), w/ Cary Grant, Loretta Young, David Niven. At 7pm: the rarely shown I’LL BE SEEING YOU (1944), w/Ginger Rogers, Joseph Cotten, Shirley Temple
Huge congratulations to my friend @www.johnbleasdale.com on today’s publication of his new — and first! — book. It is a brilliant read about one of cinema’s most enigmatic artists and I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
I could watch and listen to Isabelle talking about movies all day.
A holy grail of lost films…
You can find me in this doc airing Dec 9 on CW! Thanks @moviemantz.bsky.social !
Happy birthday Jessica!
My dear friend @pamhutch.bsky.social writing beautifully on what is my all-time favorite film.
Tonight’s Mike Tyson fight reminds me of the time I met him in 2005. He came to a Playboy Mansion movie night. Through the screening (of CAPOTE) someone’s phone kept ringing, and we eventually realized it was his. But he had fallen asleep — and no one wanted to be the one to tap him on the shoulder!
L.A. today.
Wow, I can actually breathe again!
