I have room for 1-2 more roosters for my standard pen/coop. Local farmers usually breed their friendly roos so those genetics get passed down.

We love our roosters around here! They are a great and important addition to any flock. Our top roo treats his ladies very well. 🥰

Chicks are sold as straight run (not sexed). At hatcheries, they vent sex the chicks and unfortunately the males get treated poorly since no one wants roosters.

We deal with excess roosters accordingly. Luckily, with well bred birds rehoming roosters is fairly easy.

OK but actually I am getting chicks. I have a few breeders I'm on the list for and will be getting my chicks in April.

Going with locally hatched chicks with good genetics this year. Trying to not support the big hatcheries. More ethical this way.

I had to stop at the feed store for chicken food today and was proud of myself for walking by the chicks without buying any. I called Jer to brag about my self control.

Me: I did it. I walked out with no chicks.

Jer: why?

Me: I don't have a brooder ready yet.

Jer: but you could...

It's not much, but my egg sales money usually ends up paying for our 6-day stay at the county fair. This year it will also help pay for Wesley's youth livestock project. 2/2

I currently have 17 hens of laying age right now. We got 10 eggs today. I have a personal goal this year of making $100 from egg sales each month from April-October.

Part of that will go toward feed costs, which would leave me with about $40-$50 in profit. 1/2

My level of burnout has just reached maximum capacity upon finding out I've officially made onto one of those silly student created school/teacher diss accounts.

Something busted our chicken fence so after a long day at work I get to be out in the rain fixing it. 🙃

The to-do list on our little farm is never-ending.

My greenhouse is thriving! Those little baby sweet peas are from seeds i harvested last year. 🥹

The two pullets are Tulip and Daffodil, the cockerel is Basil. 🥰

My husband and I both have cars that require premium, so I totally understand. 😭

Prices arent even this bad in the summer and I absolutely hate to think what they will be come May/June.....

Amongst all the chaos in the world right now there's my dad sending me a picture of some maple sap he collected himself and proudly stating he can make 2oz of syrup with it.

For context we do not live in a place traditionally known for maple maple syrup. 😂

Thats winning the chicken lottery!! I only ended up with 1 rooster out of what I hatched last year, so hopefully that luck lasts!

We have too many boys. I wouldnt be opposed to a Salmon Faverolle roo but...please let the pullet luck shine on me. 😆

I'm grateful to have had decent men in my life while I navigated a very toxic sport.

In a world of misogynistic asswipes, be like my father in-law. Be like my dad who hated hockey but never missed a game because he loved watching me play, be like my brother who built me up when I was hard on myself after a game, like Jer who encouraged me to play above my level and challenge myself.

The dad of a friend I'd play pickup games with in high school point blank asked me to my face "Are you sure you're good enough for that?"

I will never forget that. I will also never forget my father in law not even hesitating to say "Damn right she is."

I remember a time, about 20yrs ago, when I was practicing to join a competitive travel team because my new school didnt have a women's hockey team. Skill wise, I was at that level. I had been playing for many years at that point and had just finished playing of the U of I.

This stomach virus has hit hard. Wesley got the worst of it and that worries me. We are already battling with his weight because his medication affects his appetite. The constant vomiting is not going to help.

He finally stopped throwing up, nut just doesn't feel good. He's been asleep since 4.

Disappointed but not surprised by the behavior of the US men's hockey team. Hockey is a pretty toxic sport...
