Ayah's home in the Twelveswood is alive and present and much as she remembers - though she's not the only sister, now, to have fled the nest. She returns when she can, and is folded back into her family's ways as if she never left. She's seen enough now to know that she is very fortunate to have it.

Home, for Ken, exists in the past tense. He could return to Minato and find the house he grew up in, but it would be pointless. His childhood home is empty; his family are dead or scattered. In all his wanderings, he hasn't found anything to replace it, and he's not sure he even wants to.

If he's going to talk about it - and he usually does, given time - it's something that happens later, when he's had time to regroup. He doesn't respond too well to attempts to get him to open up before he's ready, though. He'd rather at least try to handle things alone, even if he ultimately fails.

Ken is awkward, prickly, and prone to defensive anger. He does not like his deepest sorrows to be witnessed, and will isolate himself if he's truly feeling miserable. He's very much the "go away" type, and pushing the issue just makes him mad as well as sad. It's generally best to leave him to it.

Ayah is a simple soul, with very little front to her. She responds readily to comfort and sees no shame in reaching out for it. She doesn't like to be alone when unhappy - it just makes her feel worse - and appreciates a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to cry on. And hugs. Hugs are nice.

Ayah is the kind of girl who can see the good in almost anywhere: she's happier with Living Memory than she used to be, for instance, now the Endless are no longer trapped there. The only place she would have to be dragged back into is Sastasha Seagrot. It terrified her. Nowhere is worse than that.

Though he's used to cold climes Ken found Ishgard something of a culture shock. He's used to lower, wooden buildings and has an affinity for colour. Ishgard felt very large and alien to him, and while he'll return there without complaint when duty calls, it's not somewhere he enjoys being.

From the moment of his birth, Ken's life was absolutely defined by the Garlean invasion of Doma, and its subsequent occupation. His life would have been entirely different had it not happened, and it ended up costing him everything, at the time, that he had - including his peace of mind.
