I think I'm going to stop saying genAI and start calling them for what they are: summary chatbots that lie a lot

A wooden chair. The back is shaped in a way that looks like a tailored jacket is hanging on the back of the chair.
A close up of the chair details showing the wooden buttons and lapels.

A concert series in Skaneateles inviting Esperanza Spalding drawed us there, which made me dig deeper into her music, which led me to this album with Milton Nascimento. Wow! What a gift

Today, the word βLudditeβ is used as an insult to anyone resistant to technological innovation. But a recent book argues that Luddism stood not against technology per se but for the rights of workers in the face of automation.
Okay, so, as someone with actual cancer who is actually dying, let me ask some of the "SCIENTIST-APPROVED STUFF ONLY!!!" people to pump the brakes a little until they are in my situation.
First of all: not every "unscientific" health practice is harmful.
Iβm in a fight with someone on Reddit and never felt more alive
King Crimson reinvented itself each decade though it depends on your definition of relevance because while the 90s era is great it is also very niche

A photo of the book "The Left Hand of Darkness" by Ursula K. Le Guin. The cover shows two people pulling a sled across ice in one half of a yin and yang symbol, while the other half contains a planet, nebulae and stars.
I finished my next Ursula K. Le Guin book! [Small review below]
I absolutely adored this book. The concept of a medieval-esque modernized civilization (+ a collectivist one alongside it too, on another continent) was so interesting. And ultimately, the book all came down to self-interest and honor.
I realize both that this comes from a position of immense material and historical privilege and that, more regrettably, may be a lib cringe tier post. For that I apologize
Studying history during more "normal" times seemed like a pursuit of individual self-cultivation, a way to satisfy our innate curiosity. During these times it feels more like a moral imperative
Oh Did You Find A Chart What Did The Chart Say Oh Did You Point At The Chart Did The Chart Tell You Something. I love posting here and get lots of traffic and my friends are here and we all have a good time. Line Go Up or Line Go Down this has not changed

youtube commentary on AI is blowing up and that rules i love it lots of thoughtful discourse, but it frustrates me how much my primary problem with AI companies is never addressed? These are tech companies that would NOT EXIST without metric tonnes of uncompensated labor used without consent.

5. Yup, loved Sinners as expected. Didn't change my life as the hype led me to believe it would tho. The first half of the movie is slow and methodical and crunchy. The last half is great though slightly less interesting and too fast-paced for my liking. Lots of vampire movies this year! (2/5)
Personal data protections in the US are already ridiculously weak. This news will not get a lot of coverage but this is dire for citizen digital rights. This is not a hypothetical bad future either: companies are abusing people's data today.
a black whippet with white markings around her face is peeking up into the bottom of a photo and pressing her nose close to the camera as she squints at you. thereβs a big building and some tall topiaries in the background, out of focus.
jess the whippet is still squinting suspiciously at the camera in the lower left corner of a picture. behind her, thereβs some tall grass, and then a wide expanse of water thatβs only barely darker than the pale sky above.
jess is outside a huge cathedral and squinting at the camera again. her head narrows down to her delicate snoot, and thereβs less white around her eyes than in some of the other pics.
This is Jess. She is very suspicious of you. Has been within six inches of you all week, but still thinks you're up to something. 13/10
"Writing is hard work. A clear sentence is no accident. Very few sentences come out right the first time, or even the third time. Remember this in moments of despair. If you find that writing is hard, it's because it is hard.β
