i was (and still am!) a xenogears superfan. even before i knew i was trans, elly's character arc, & who she became during the story, really moved & inspired me. she was an inspiration for the type of woman i wanted to become. so, it didn't even take me very long to pick. i knew it had to be elly. :D

i use a similar, but less effective technique

agree with everyone mentioning the great character designs & writing... in particular i love how the basketball games are used to give the characters depth. they all have a clear personality outside the game, but the competition reveals deeper layers of them & doesn't always play to type
