"You can only be decent because we are horrible" is a very, very popular line of thinking among horrible people.
There's been a lot of debate within the Democratic establishment about what rhetoric to use via ICE.
Well, an incumbent doesn't lose by 48 percentage points very oftenβand her vote on collaborating with ICE was the defining issue here.

This is dishonest and dangerous.
Kafka understood that an even greater indignity than being turned into a giant insect was still being required to go to work afterward.

I think invading and murdering are bad things and you shouldnβt do them.
The second you leave this country for even a few days, you realize the place you call home is decaying at an almost exponential pace. The realization that you don't have to live like this is stark, and that nobody in power is taking tangible actions to fix it in your lifetime is even starker.
Please consider voting for my novelettes, βIsolateβ and βStrange Events at Fletcher and Front!β

I signed the contract for βA Grove of Bindingβ to appear in @analogsf.bsky.social. Itβs a dark story, but, I hope, a meaningful one. It is about the horror of being a pacifist in violent times, and the thrill of living to spite those who want you dead.
This is true, essentially. But it is so often and easily forgotten that the Luddites were absolutely correct. They were not anti-technology. They were anti-exploitation facilitated by technology. To call someone a Luddite needs to be understood to be a compliment.
They beat a blind refugee who speaks no English for failing to obey police commands he could not understand. Then instead of apologizing, they charged him with possession of a βweaponββHIS WALKING STICK. Then they dumped him miles from home without notifying anyone, after which he was found dead.
I'm not entirely sure how they did it, but they've completely cleared the streets around my office in Midtown #NYC.
They paid a lot of people good wages to do the job effectively, thank you for coming to my socialism talk
zohran increased the number of snow shovelers from 500 to 1,400 for this blizzard, paying them $30/hour to shovel sidewalks with at least a four-foot berth so that wheelchairs and strollers can get through. he didn't overhaul city government to do it, he just used the power given to him and did it!
I feel this so strongly. Covid was a test of our moral integrity & decency -- *not just elites, but all of us* -- and we failed.
I genuinely think one reason Covid has been memory-holed so hard, & so crusted w/ myths & conspiracy theories, is that on some level we know this & are ashamed.
Some day we'll all regret this & we'll hold hearings & rend garments & pledge "never again" & we'll be just as full of shit as we were last time.
Thank you for this!!
Four months in jail because *her mom* overstayed a visa while applying for a green card. Iβm sitting next to my 9-year-old daughter right now and the idea that anyone would put her in jail at all for something like thatβ¦no words
Ian McNeice is my favorite Baron Harkonnen. All the Dune adaptations are great in their own ways, but McNeiceβs Baron enjoys his decadence. All the Barons are evil, but McNeiceβs is having the most fun.
Iβm glad to see the Villanueve Dune part 2 understands the extent to which Dune is about weird hats

Stacy Bradley voted for President Trump because of his border policies, and she likes that he has restored βlaw and order.β But she is unsettled by one aspect of his immigration agenda. Last month, the federal government bought a warehouse next to her cheerleading gym in Surprise, Ariz., which the administration plans to convert into a detention center for up to 1,500 immigrants. Ms. Bradley, the co-owner of Woodlands Elite Cheer, said she worried that a detainee could escape, or that protests could break out. The children who train at her gym are as young as 3 and could see βpeople in shacklesβ next door, she said.
βmy children might see the children I voted to put in shackles, how shall they grow upβ
I have been trying to find someone who shares my appreciation for its depiction of ekranoplans - surface effect skimmers. Iβve never seen them in any other fantasy fiction, and Iβve never seen anyone talking about it online either. But theyβre cool as hell!
AI leveraged by lobby shop to ratfuck a SoCal initiative to fight global warming, is what this says. Thousands of emails sent to agency, can't tell if humans really sent them or not. AI spam vs. the planet. www.latimes.com/environment/...
