Here in Quebec, there are a bunch of beer festivals that have enclosed and supervised spaces with activities for your kids so that you can enjoy the festival (responsibly, of course), and your kids will have an equal amount of fun!

We just had our 2nd green Christmas in a row here in Montreal, and we've had others in the past 5 years.
When I was young, a green Christmas was utterly unthinkable.
My children's Christmases are of ice and rain.

I’m not sure he’s being told to… I imagine he’s trying to play “with an edge” but he’s not talented enough to manage it, and just zooms around only half in control.

I think you need to re-read what I wrote, reconsider your last statement, and then ask yourself if your original analogy of comparing car companies with board game companies is appropriate. You might also want to read the replies of others in the industry.

I guess I'm expecting a certain generosity of spirit that isn't always present amongst gamers.
That being said, the generous ones are the ones who don't post comments, and who enjoy the game in the spirit it's intended.
And for all of you, I am extremely thankful, and I wish you all happy gaming!!
No amount of pre-release playtesting is going to find ALL the kinks and blips in a complex game.
It's very easy to sit back and say 'this clearly wasn't playtested enough'. For me, it's more fun to say 'wow, I guess that didn't come up in playtesting!' It's like finding an Easter egg.
And no amount of playtesting is going to compare with the thousands of people who are going to play your game when it releases. Maybe the hundred or so people who playtested your game all made the same assumptions that hundreds of other post-release people didn't, and so aren't part of your rules.
and then dedicate time to filling out an Excel file with all the statistics and information needed, PLUS giving reflections (usually answers to very specific questions).
And this is all independent of the time and cost required for creating and mailing prototypes of nearly-finished games.
Playing an unreleased game AND giving feedback that might influence the eventual product that THOUSANDS of people will play?? Being in contact with the brains who make these games?

It bugs me when I see people post comments like this on BGG:
Playtesting is a very challenging thing for publishers. It is HARD to get people to playtest, believe it or not.
When I started in the industry, many moons ago, I thought this would be the easiest part of the job.
