Aw look at those toes!
Spot on π§΅
I've seen education transform peoples lives. People this chap would gladly leave behind. People I bump into who tell me how improved their lives are since I worked with them on Access to HE courses at an FE College in Bristol.
This appalling fat cat wants to shut the door on all my mature students, many of whom left school after GCSE and give up a lot to go to university. I can tell him that theyβre the hungriest for education and far from being unable to graduate, they regularly get the highest grades. Hateful man.
Pun of the day for me!
In bed. Rosa, a tortoiseshell cat sitting on my torso, next to my kindle, trying to persuade me it isn't too early for breakfast
An early caturday reading in bed with my two lovelies
We should be fighting against student loans not students who didn't or couldn't do A-levels. The civic roots of HE and alternative routes into it are key to universities' roles in improving all of our society. Study at this level is not for everyone but we should be as inclusive as possible
Oh this makes me cross. I've spent years teaching mature students w/o A-levels. This totally depends on the student, their background, their spark to learn & the support they get. Seeing them light up w their love of learning & changing their lives for the better.

After so much bad news recently your presentation was a breath of fresh and fabulous air that felt inspiring and exciting. Will be picking your brains at some point ....
Brilliant news! Watched @benwt.bsky.social presentation on this project today and it looks so awesome. A great example of public centred yet academically rigorous and exciting research. A hard trio to achieve!
Thanks Martin!
Definitely not a weirdo. Everyone I speak to about this work feels the same!
Lovely piece on my upcoming talk in @bristol247.bsky.social by a recently graduated student from ELCE. Please share - we have seats and all proceed go to the brilliant @arnosvalecemetery.bsky.social

: Half of UK universities face a deficit next year. Up to 50 could close.
That is a sector in crisis. Simply blaming a tuition fee freeze and nudging fees up with inflation is not a plan. Where is the long-term strategy for higher education?

Yes. I chose it as she is an early female detective but I also think he is fascinating. Problematic in some ways, powerful in others
I fear she steals the prawns off her customers orders so don't expect a big portion....
@jendeavour.bsky.social looks less professional than Rosa's noodle bar to me....
A black and white pen and printmaking ink illustration of a man sat in a cart being pulled by a pony towards a large dark house. A dim light can be seen at the doorway of the house the only other source of light is from the stars in the dark sky.

A black pen in a crosshatch technique and black printing ink applied with a roller illustration on off white paper. A large Victorian house sits on a small island surrounded by a bleak estuary, a winding causeway trails across the muddy marshland to the island. A grey & gloomy sky, patches of dappled light on the water. Bleak and atmospheric.
Itβs nice and sunny today so I highly recommend that you make your day even more enjoyable by purchasing this original artwork I made for The Woman in Black for just Β£100 plus P&P ππ»π
Every time I see some racist **$&$*** insult the RNLI in the press, I make a donation. Turning their bullsh*t into a game which supports the amazing work the RNLI do.

This is my annual call for writing advice from the academic world for my dissertation students. What do you most like/dislike about writing? What is one tip you value more than anything else?
PhD students in the UK with a Victorianist bent will want to take particular note of the placement titled "Illustrated Newspapers: Beyond the Illustrated London News": cdn.sanity.io/files/v5dwki...
