our university, which hasn't created any guidance around AI except for admin pushing it & faculty threatening expulsion for using it, wasted no time in prohibiting anthropic on campus after the government fallout. fascinating how fast academia responds to the government but not its own students

we're working on rewriting ours and I used this document as inspiration - after requesting feedback we received a comment that said the word diverse should be "eliminated entirely," because we should "focus on amplifying materials that support the university's academic programs instead"......

fighting shit like β€œtrans people must turn in their documents at midnight and if people catch you using the restrooms, they can sue you for $1000” is actually pretty popular! (but doesn’t mean much if you don’t back up β€œwe will protect trans rights” when you end up near the levers of power.)

That's 18 yo college freshman Jesse Jackson on the left & the seven hs students he organized for a silent sit-in at a segregated library.

"Although Greenville was not the first library system to integrate in SC, it was the first to do so as a result of public demonstrations by the Black community."

This is why expanded IMLS funding isn't really a good thing under the current regime--funding is the tool through which they will seek to push and control a narrative that will unmake and disassemble our libraries under the fascist image of trump's big government plan that we likely will never undo.

Making the Academic Librarian Interview Less Painful - ACRLog To be unexpectedly unemployed in the U.S. is to be in a state of desperation. If you haven’t been out of work lately, it’s a particularly challenging time. The labor market is cooling, and people are ...

I wrote about some of the unreasonable requests I've gotten as a candidate for library jobs, and how employers might make the interview process less dehumanizing. acrlog.org/2026/02/05/m... πŸ“š

SB1 in Ohio does all of this and prohibits faculty from going on strike. It's a laundry list of ways to push faculty out the door. It was passed with zero voter input.

Thomas Fountain Blue was the first Black person to head a public library, in 1905. The Western Colored Branch was the first Carnegie "colored library" in KY; the first public library in the US to serve Black patrons with an exclusively Black staff. #BlackHistoryMonth
