Black and white dolls from the study conducted by Kenneth and Mamie Clarks that helped desegregated schools
A pleasant surprise to see this set of dolls from the Clark & Clark studies in the National Museum of African American History and Culture. In my opinion, it’s probably one of the most important psychological research ever and we don’t discuss/ teach/ cite it enough.
MORE THAN NATURE AND NURTURE? In a new Nature Human Behavior paper, we probe the origins of indirect genetic effects on educational achievement in Norway. We found they are more due to dynastic processes than to nurture processes. Here's a thread, with slight emphasis on the sociology of it. [1/9]

Looking for someone with clinical dev psych expertise who might be interested in speaking at an in-person event on talking to kids about the Israel-Hamas conflict at a synagogue in central NJ. Send me any leads.
Does anyone have a template for reviewing pre-registrations? I have assigned pre-registrations for a course assignment and would be grateful for examples of how others evaluate these. Thank you! #openscience
A white square with a black oval at the bottom.
Made this size contrast example a while ago based on a VSS demo.
The black oval is NOT changing in size or shape. It is only moving in position. #VisionScience

"🙏🏿Lord please grant me the confidence to deny a brilliant woman professor and researcher tenure track, demote her, push her out of my school, to be the adversity that she had to overcome in life... and when she overcomes me and wins the Nobel prize, to roll in like I did something. Amen!"
If you like more guidance through the steps of a sample size justification for your next study, my Sample Size Justification paper comes with a Shiny app: shiny.ieis.tue.nl/sample_size_... Complete the steps, and you can download the justification as a PDF to include in a preregistration.
Dear researchers in clinical psychology: Please give me more work!
I am the Senior Editor for Clinical Psychology at Collabra: Psychology, and the Clinical Psych section is sleepy. 💤
Collabra should be on your list of outlets for your work! Ask me what you want to know about it!
after much thought my highest benefit-to-cost bits of advice for new PIs are:
1. make a list of all the writing you want done each year. you'll never finish it all but it feels great to cross out on a whiteboard as you go
2. write a handbook and keep it updated (esp onboarding & code of conduct):
Why, rather than using the words "complete" and "partial #mediation", we should use numerical estimates of the direct and indirect effects. From Preacher & Hayes, 2011. quantpsy.org/pubs/preache... #StatsSky #SocialPsych #PsychSciSky
I have written a new chapter for my online textbook on "Confirmation Bias and Organized Skepticism". lakens.github.io/statistical_... It's part of new lectures I will teach, starting next week. I'd love to hear any recommendations on what to add (or what I got wrong!).
