I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.
Nah I don't think that advice is poor or whatever it is just that most of the time noone starts out getting instantly popular over just drawing original stuff, only by building interest across time then they can see results (even if they draw nothing but samey pinups)
chances are if you draw OC stuff it is always gonna flop... unless your audience actively follows you for your original content๐ท
