was talking about it with my dad, today... besides the ones in those days being much rougher on your spine, the chance of your legs being caught and broken was much higher if you were tall. well, my dad's short, so he wasn't worried, lol
imagine you show up to an exercise and they suddenly start shooting you for real

nvm its actually so warm
i guess even the belief in it effects something. like before the second world war, there was this proto-MAD type belief. but once bombs fall the fear evaporates, right? that was probably the big mistake with launching ballistic missiles in april 2024. it can kill, but it becomes a known quantity.
it's a bit nuanced right because on the operational level air power is clearly decisive, or even to the extent that it can destroy logistics and coerce or assure leaders... but somehow this always devolves again into bombing the population out of some belief that it accomplishes something
who knows maybe theres some motive behind it we're not privy to e.g. the air force did nothing last time so if they do nothing again someone's going to get shot. hate to be that guy though
did they actually try to send a fencer to qatar because that seems unsound. its an odd story
was way worse before the zero-zero seat, though. even in the ideal case where you have altitude and aren't already injured. plenty of pilots would jump out and get killed hitting the tailplane or similar
you can probably keep flying after you eject, even multiple times if nothing goes wrong, going wrong meaning 1. you're in the wrong position and get fucked up on the way out 2. you meet the ground in an unfortunate way 3. the bad day you were having leading up to the ejection. those will get you
people seem to think that ejecting is much more harmful than it actually is. i blame redditors. le you can only eject once spine 3 inches shorter or whatever.
its cold... my legs are sore...
surely these things are going to be all over the place by the 30s...
if that's magen or it's a remarkably low dwell time... but i guess these kinds of rockets like to explode
"emotive strategy" is apt!
lrt good article. i actually had a few concerns while reading it (regarding industrial/logistic targets, or coercing politically through destruction of air defenses and airfields) but then i found they were all adequately addressed
Seems like a good moment to re-up my primer on the endless empty promises that strategic airpower can win wars entirely from the air: acoup.blog/2022/10/21/c...
i guess not
did the pump feel good or just weird
what
happy birthday!!!!
not sure why im talking like this but i probably just love qualifying my opinions
yeah, it probably could not. on the other hand, china is probably the only country which could reasonably force that many american casualties in the current environment, and i think the political regime could probably survive that with only a bit of priming public opinion necessary
it's entirely true though that i think wars seem to get more popular in hindsight not less. so i doubt there's any real political brake until a hypothetical war between america and china
im not discounting that they could im not sure its being a liberal democracy that makes the difference. i think they would just need to build some more fear and hatred first
sorry for being like that
