I've seen designs that work well for their purpose but they are so specific that after a few versions they become obsolete or they need to be refactored and re-thought because not enough feedback was asked/given in order to prevent future issues.
A well made design takes time, don't rush it!

Test your design. On paper. Think about all the posible outcomes and the chances of those outcomes happening. Think about yourself in the future using the system that you are creating, think about scalability. Don't go for the first thing you create, ask for feedback and talk to programmers.

Hi, its been a while. Hope you all had a great start of 2025.
Today I wanted to share with you something that impacts production (from a game design perspective), specially with entry level or junior profiles. [...]

Happy new year from Spain to the gamedev & bluesky community!
Hopefully this year is better for game development and we don't see layoffs happen!
Best wishes, and support indie games!

I've been missing Unreal Engine so much, been using Unity + Excel so much time that I have almost forgotten everything related to UE.
I'd love to retake it, it was so much fun to prototype and do personal stuff in unreal. I'm open to suggestions, maybe you know some online mentoring o something...👀

Yesterday, after almost 3 years without seeing each other I had the huge pleasure to meet my dear Ana (we live at 3 hours and we met on vacation at 900km of our homes 😅), one of the best 3D artists that I know.
The talk was amazing, I have almost no voice today. Completely worth it.

I have been absent. Anno 1800 and The Binding of Isaac are the root of that problem.
What an amazing set of games.

There is no "Unreal Engine" starter pack to follow.
So im creating one here: go.bsky.app/S3U5wKj
If you have any Unreal Engine skills, reply if you want to be added. Repost if you can so other people can be aware too.

This goes specially for designers that work with excel and try to have all the possible data into the same system.
Calm down, filter that data, use only the necessary and make it usable for your design colleagues! That's the hard part of this!
(And test it. Make sure it's not a pain in the ass)

A common mistake is to make everything harder because it's often thought that harder means complex, and complex means you are proficient!
Well, it's actually the opposite. It can be complex but it has to be usable and understandable, otherwise the design is not serving its purpose.

Level design for racing games can be tricky if it's not a conventional racing game (real life circuits), anything that involves car physics in an uncontrollable environment is a challenge.
I encourage you to try it, it's very fulfilling when everything starts working as intended.

I won't be touching the other social media for a long time, it's flooded with bots and a radical ideology that I am not part of.
I'm thankful to be surrounded by actual human beings that share my game development passion.

I hope this helps someone starting in the mobile free to play industry. Sometimes if the studio is not big enough and you are in a game design role, you may face this issue, obviously a monetisation designer should know this at the very minimum x)

And remember, expensive products might sound good, but the fact that the game is free, has a huge impact in the first purchase. The lower the first price, the higher the long term value. Check the link below for more info!

It's a free tool and the time it takes to start a price experiment is really low, in just a couple of clicks you can test a different price (even A/B/C test) and start collecting data in order to improve the monetisation and the pay 2 fast/free 2 play experience for your users.

If you work for the mobile Free to Play industry, make sure that the prices of all the sellable items are localized to each country.
Google Play console let's us A/B test different prices to make sure your products are adjusted for everyone's income segmented by country.

"What's this account about?"
This account is solely a place where self-proclaimed game devs can find each other.
"How do I use it?"
Look at my 'Following' and perhaps 'Followers' list to see if there's anyone worth following. That's it. That's the whole account.

Screenshot of my bluesky app’s header: Game News, OnlyPosts, Followers, Quiet Posters
Tip: If you go to Feeds, you can join ones like “Quiet Posters”, that shows you the posts from people you follow that don’t talk a lot and get drowned out on the default feed, and OnlyPosts is a feed without replies and reskeets
